I Counted 110 folks in the main seating area on Saturday. Great turnout.

I hope we San Diego LEAFers never bump into y'all in a dark alley... we're grossly outnumbered !!
LOL, well remember, it was a joint meeting with the EAA chapters at this end of the bay. Probably 55-60 of the attendees were LEAF owners club members. 50 LEAFs and ~20 other EV's there.

I hope we do meet in a dark alley! Then we'll all turn on the LED headlights of our EVs and send a beacon of EV light out to the rest of the world! Both groups have individual members and the group as a whole making a difference in learning more about EVs, building the charging infrastructure and getting more EVs on the road!

SF BayLEAFs Gathering #14 will be June 9th in Union City at 8:45 AM. This will be our first "regular" meeting in 3 months (with the joint EAA meetings and Hybrids2HotRods in between), and there has been lots of activity to cover. Our special guest speaker is Karen Schkolnick, from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. She'll be discussing the state of charging in the Bay Area, and the BAAQMD's programs for developing charging infrastructure. There will be a generous Q&A period following the presentation. As well, the BayLEAFs are doing more in 2012 and these activities will be reviewed. And then, there's the always popular horn upgrade clinic, which will take place in the parking lot (and will Electric4Me be doing a trailer hitch installation? Come and find out!). The venue, Union City Library, has a small meeting room but lots of shade in the parking lot. Here are the details:

SF BayLEAFs Gathering #14
Union City Library
34007 Alvarado Niles Road
Union City, CA 94587
(Enter from Royal Ann Dr)

Refreshments 7:55 AM
Meeting: 8:45
Chair stacking: 10:55 AM
Horn Clinic: 11:00

Miscellaneous notes: Union City Library now has Wi-Fi, so we may be able to webcast the meeting (I'm told it's spotty in the meeting room). The meeting room will hold 50 (stated capacity), so be prepared to stand if you show up late. There is no charging on site, but the location is central enough that most everyone can reach it without a charge. A good LEAF Frogging spot is Target, at Automall Parkway, about 10 miles South (7 Coulomb L2 charging stations +2 in the handicapped spaces) and at the W Hotel (1 L2) about 5 miles West. If you want to do the horn upgrade, pick up a set of horns and bring them to the meeting--we'll teach you to do it yourself or do it for you. The recommended horn is:

which is available from a number of retailers for around $20-25. If you want to hear what it sounds like, check out this link:

Join us on June 9th in Union City.

The landlord won't let him plug into the socket in his assigned parking space and pay for the electricity.

Trinity Management needs a lot of dislikes, not just from EV owners but from everyone in the Bay Area who likes to breathe. And by dislike I don't mean just a Facebook posting, but terminated leases. Trinity needs to pack up and move out of California - to one of the Drill Baby Drill states. I was going to suggest Texas, but Texas has some of the best EV charging infrastructure in the nation, making use of some of that West Texas wind power. Blow Baby Blow.

The “Hybrids 2 Hotrods” event in San Jose on May 12, 2011 is coming up fast so some of the organizers that are coordinating the participation of EVs made a pitch to complete the required registration forms. A signed liability form is required to participate in the event. Details are available at http://hybrids2hotrods.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. There is plenty of discussion of this event on the MNL forum - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5902&sid=ac345b2364a644995abd4b954f816501.
2011? Err... how about 2012?

Oddly, there isn't much discussion at all at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5902&sid=ac345b2364a644995abd4b954f81650" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Thanks for the plug Howard. ;)
If anyone is interested send me a PM. Drilling through the frame is no longer required and it only takes ~1/2 hour for me to install it.

Cheers, Bill

Another opportunity to shape statewide infrastructure comes as a request that we received this week from Breathe California (http://www.lungsrus.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) in support of AB 2405 (Choose Clean Cars Act 2012). They received an inquiry from the State Senate Housing and Transportation Committee regarding the correlation of HOV Lane access incentive to the purchase of EVs. With limited data on this for EV’s (though plenty for hybrids), we decided to conduct a very brief survey of SF BayLEAFs members and LEAF owners. Please take a quick moment to fill out this Breathe California Quick Survey (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dGgxSGE3MjQ0NUl3bEhaWGJlNDhwTmc6MQ#gid=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Your responses are anonymous. The final committee hearing is on Tuesday morning (June 12th) so the survey will end by Noon Monday.

I hope to attend the Saturday meeting and will have EVSE's and Climate Control upgrades on hand for those needing them.

I will also be happy to demonstrate developments in the parking lot,
including the LEAFSCAN prototype.

If you haven't yet, Howard, you might want to post this generally on the forum or on other CA group regional threads, since it applies statewide.

Please pass on my observation, that the air quality of the Bay Area would be improved, if California, had ONE DC CHARGE STATION near Vacaville, as well as one located on I-5 North, I-5 South, And 80/50 East, from 50 to 75 miles further out, to allow bay area BEV drivers to take their zero-emission cars on longer trips, and allow BEV drivers from outside the Bay area, to drive their zero-emission cars, when they travel there.

I did start a separate thread on this in the local/regional/pacific section. Have also asked the leaders of Southern California and San Diego LEAF owners groups to email same to members...mad dash up to tomorrow's meeting.
