2013 Dec Plugin Sales Discussion : Leaf 2529, Volt 2392

While I appreciate Gshon's optimism, the Leaf nor the Volt are trending at 3,000 cars a month. The Volt is the only electric vehicle that has managed a 3k+ month, and with the start of a new year, my bet is a huge drop in sales (like we experience at the beginning of every year), and I doubt...

2013 Sept. Plugin Sales Discussion : Leaf 1953 Volt 1766

They started making the 2014 in early August. It has been over 1.5 months since the restart, and inventory continues to go DOWN. It was above 5,100 at the beginning of the month, is nearly 4,200. It has been taking about 30 days to get the pipeline going, and since we are well beyond that and...

Do Volt drivers drive more EV miles than Leaf owners ?

That's it. Had it not included the Volt at the end, it would have been great.

Do Volt drivers drive more EV miles than Leaf owners ?

I don't think that is the case. Whatever irritation the Volt forum has with the Leaf is because of a select number of Leaf purists, that have given Leaf owners a bad name. Couple this with the obnoxious Nissan commercial poking fun of the Volt (you haven't seen this on a GM national television...

Do Volt drivers drive more EV miles than Leaf owners ?

I could argue the Volt is more electric than the Leaf, since apparently the average Volt owner drives more electric miles per day than the average Leaf owner.

    Gen 1 GM Volt Plug-In Hybrid (2011-2015)

"Let us assume that the average might be higher on Volt. I don't know if that means anything useful, though." You can infer a LOT from this. Even though Volt owners have less total electric range than a Leaf owner, they don't allow range anxiety to prevent them from taking a trip. On the...

My Volt is roasting my Leaf

About 1.5-2 kWhs for a full charge is my estimation. Takes just under 13 kWh to charge 10 kWh usable.

What if Nissan had engineered the LEAF BMS like the Volt?

You mean the dead weight in about really expensive 12 extra kWhs of battery capacity I'd have to haul around every day that I didnt need with a Leaf? We can play this game all day.

    My one year review on the Volt. Lots of good stuff here. http://voltowner.blogspot.com/2013/01/one-year-of-volt-ownership-costs-of.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

    Worldwide Plugin Sales Numbers

Electric vehicles are a long term play. I think Nissan, and all the electric car manufacturers, need to find the price point that makes the car attractive. Then work like hell to get components of the car to the point where they can make an acceptable margin. But before then, you'll have to...

    Gen 1 GM Volt Plug-In Hybrid (2011-2015)

Probably does for some. For me, rarely. Normally, I am the one trying to keep the efficiency ball centered, and let the regenerative braking do all the work, and set cruise control on the highway. I do worry less about climate control. I always run it in comfort mode.

    Gen 1 GM Volt Plug-In Hybrid (2011-2015)

I'm not entirely sure the Leaf is noticeable more efficient than the Volt. I have owned since January 7. During the hot summer, I have been about 30 kWh/100 miles and getting consistantly over 40 miles (I would say an average of 42 miles) out of my 9.7 kWhs. I don't know how much of a...

    Gen 1 GM Volt Plug-In Hybrid (2011-2015)

I've got no problems with leafs or most of their owners. I know about 10 leaf owners. If the Volt were not made, I would seriously consider a leaf despite its short comings. I do have a problem with people not seeing the forest through the trees with regards to the future of transportation...

    Gen 1 GM Volt Plug-In Hybrid (2011-2015)

I typically tell people that I go about 1000 miles before I end up burning a gallon of fuel. I tell them I have burned about 16 gallons in 16k miles. I tell them I have used $250 in electricity. This isn't rocket science. I stand by my previous comments on the merits of combined fuel...

    Gen 1 GM Volt Plug-In Hybrid (2011-2015)

It's not a lie if it's properly qualified. The combined figure is a display of the usefulness of the 40 mile range at reducing gas consumption. It is a way of showing that you don't need to drive a pure BEV to reduce your gasoline consumption to near zero. I have a combined rating of 1000 MPG...

    Gen 1 GM Volt Plug-In Hybrid (2011-2015)

Unfortunately, for your argument, you aren't comparing apples to apples. Since the gas engine can take you over 300 miles, you would need to compare the weight and cost of a battery system that would take you 300 miles. Short story, your cost weight argument doesn't work. GM didn't put an...

    Gen 1 GM Volt Plug-In Hybrid (2011-2015)

You battery purists crack me up. As you think it's ridiculous to haul around an engine, I think it's even more stupid to haul around a ton of extra battery capacity that costs a fortune. The Volt is most certainly a bridge technology. But it is a bridge technology that provides a future for...

Hello fellow electric car owners :) http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread.php?15903-Leaving-the-car-on-accidentally" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; We are having a lively debate on gm-volt about the Volt's inability to automatically power itself off in the event the driver exited...
