Are there leafs anywhere people can look at and test drive or do you have to buy them based on what you've seen online so far?
No Leafs for us buyers to test drive, yet. Probably not until October-November time frame.

We're ordering sight-unseen at this point, but you can always walk away after you test drive and not lose anything. In fact, in Ca., you can walk right up to the point where they drop the keys into your hands and not lose anything.

But if you watch all the press test-drive videos, they all say it's an amazing car, they all have smiles on their faces when they drive and they all wish they could buy one right there and drive it home. I have yet to see a really bad report on the car, so I'm comfortable ordering one.

Alan Webb Nissan in Vancouver said they will get a Leaf in December. I'm thinking that most of the dealers will get demonstrators in December and right after that, the August people will get theirs. I am a September order and IMO there are advantages to being 2nd. Let the August orders pave the way for everyone to follow. I am especially anxious to find out how NOT getting the AV EVSE plays out. I already have my 40amp circuit and L6-50 Receptacle waiting for the Leviton EVSE to hit the market.

It really doesn't make much sense for a dealer to have a demonstrator until they are caught up with pre-order demand. Last I checked with Nissan (about a week ago), they said with my September order date I should still expect to pick it up in December.

good news regarding Sep. orders possibly getting a Leaf in Dec. !!
I hadn't heard that before.

I am curious as to the Nissan dealers within the vicinity of Portland. Since we are getting close to ordering, has anybody done any research as to the dealer they will choose and why? I am just starting to call around and will post my results. I called Alan Webb in Vancouver and they (so far) were non committal regarding selling for MSRP. Nissan of Portland said they WOULD sell for MSRP without adding any additional. But neither dealer rep seemed to be on top of the information curve. Any thoughts from anyone else?

I'm going with Wilsonville Nissan since they're the only dealership that has attempted to reach out to the existing EV community to promote the Nissan Leaf. Also, they have it in writing that they will not charge a penny over MSRP on the vehicle.

Wilsonville Nissan will be converting a bay to handle EVs in October and installing a few level 2 EVSE units at that time. They should have a lot more info once their service technicians go to training in California for their certifications, but I wouldn't expect them to have any info until after that point. Nissan corporate is probably still finalizing details and they won't share that info with dealers until they're ready to do so.

I'm also signed up at Wilsonville. It's true that they reached out to OEVA, but my main reason is that I'm within close proximity to them during work hours.

I think I saw a deal for Intel employees concerning Leaf for ~$500 at the following url: https://discounts.intel.com/

I'm not at Intel but it opens the door for other opportunities.

I'm located in the Beaverton area. Anyone heard anything from Beaverton or Hillsboro Nissan?

Ditto for me. Wilsonville isn't unreasonably far away, but it would be a lot more convenient if we could pick ours up closer to home. Do the local dealerships have some sort of mutual agreement on this kind of stuff, or is each separate one locally owned and answers only to itself? I would have thought that Nissan would be able to apply greater pressure on local dealerships to keep the prices exactly at MSRP. Oh well. I'm just glad that I won't be paying a penny in sales tax for my LEAF!

Each dealer is independently owned and operated. I wanted to go through Beaverton Nissan, but their lack of communication bumped them from my list.

Personally, I'll be happy paying MSRP at any dealer in the area, but they have to take at least a little initiative! :D

Joel Fowler, the sales manager at Tonkin Wilsonville Nissan, is their Leaf specialist. He let me sit in at a meeting with the regional Nissan rep a few weeks ago, where I got a lot of questions answered. Very helpful. They will sell at MSRP.

Can you post some of that ?

To be honest, I don't remember a lot. What I do remember is that those of us with a reservation will have an opportunity to test drive a Leaf in November out at Washington Square.

Some of the conversation was Nissan/Tonkin business related, which I won't repeat.

Tonkin should have a demo in December.

I'm a 50 mile a day driver, and I don't think I need a home charging station, and I wanted to know about the waiver. The Nissan rep didn't have a copy, but promised one when they become available.

We talked some about battery life, and about the San Francisco test drive, which others have covered in this forum.

I remember something about a free battery check after one year, but that may just be a Tonkin service. I did ask and was reassured about MSRP.

Based on this feedback, I switched my preferred dealer to Wilsonville. But, now I'm seeing that Auburn WA is offering $100 off invoice, which is a significant savings. Auburn is only 160 miles from Beaverton, so it's an easy 2 day trip. I'll probably go that route unless a local dealer offers something similar soon.

Anyone here going to go with Rairdon's Nissan of Auburn for $100 below invoice? I am awfully tempted but I haven't called them yet. I'm guessing they are about 175 miles away. I don't know if there is any advantage to going with a dealer that will have a ton of orders (because of their pricing) or one that will only have a few orders (because of their pricing)?

I haven't switched my preferred dealer yet, but I will likely go with Rairdon's unless a local dealer offers up some kind of deal soon. $1600 is a good chunk of change.

My thoughts exactly

Fellow Oregonians . . .have you figured out how the Oregon $1500 tax credit works as far as the buy vs. lease debate goes? Thanks in advance for any insights!
