I still find it very curious that there are still no pictures of US options on the Leaf site when ordering.

Maybe Gudy can take some pics and help them out.

Seriously, it's getting weird.
I don't know what options Gudy has ordered ... but whatever they are ... yes, please post pictures on Dec 11.

Parking brakes are on the back.

I've had four cars with 4-wheel disk brakes and a mechanical parking brake. None of them had a drum brake of any type.

I've owned only watercooled VWs going back to 1983 and it is indeed true that none of them use a drum brake arrangement as their emergency brake. However, my VWs and your four VWs is not a good sample size. :)

BMW 5 series have a drum brake on the rear as their emergency/parking brake. Google for "bmw e39 parking brake".

Looks like you found an exception - congrats.

My sample, though unspoken, includes various Vdubs, Saturn SL1, Matrix/Vibe, RX7, Miata...all have cable operated parking brake similar to the diagram I posted. Euro vehicles I've seen with electric parking brakes are also similar - the cable is replaced with an electric actuator. I expect the 5series is an exception to the majority...
Majority or not, the exception proves itself.

Thanks, aqn, for teaching me something about parking brakes!

Per the Leaf Service Manual, the Leaf's parking brake is a set of shoes that act on a drum inside the rear brake disk.

Boom, ... boom, boom, boom, ... boom (drum beating) ...
Drum parking brakes on rear.

Is the actuator a cable wound on a drum that is electrically wound and unwound?

Thanks Andy, and Merry Christmas.

Both rear brakes are disc brakes. :)

Apparently it is cable-operated, with the cable pulled by an electric motor.

This is interesting to me.

We have a sleep driveway that is downhill toward the garage door. I'd like to be able to adjust the Leaf parking brake if necessary.

I've already had my 2001 Insight slip on damp pavement with a few pine needles lying around (parking brake engaged and trans in gear) and rolled into my aluminum garage door, denting it and pushing it inwards 1 1/2 feet. Thankfully, no damage to the car.

Now I park parallel to the garage door-taking no chances.

You can find inexpensive Leaf accessories here: http://www.nissanaccessories247.com

I purchased and installed the Rear Bumper Protector (http://www.nissanaccessories247.com/product.asp?MCId=21&SCId=&PId=2738&Modelyear=2011). I like it for the price and the install took all of a few minutes.

I heard that some clear ones might be coming, I'll probably pick one up then...

Thanks a bunch! .. I was looking to do this...

A question for anyone who bought the "protection package" and received their car: was the black plastic rear bumper protector included? CSR I spoke with today thought so, but I was expecting not.
