Here are my pictures. I won't rehash Gary's instructions...they were concise. However, I will put a small description with the pictures. Don't laugh at my soldering....I'm a bit rusty and probably was never all that good to begin with! Haven't got everything into the box yet....Gary is going to trade me for a pre-cut one. And I also haven't been out to the car to test it yet....too early!
The complete kit. Naomi already got her hands on the tube of sealant:
Choose the right tip for your soldering iron. You'll be soldering on some pretty small parts:
First thing I did was solder the wires for the display:
Then I did the wires for the D-Sub connector, following the wiring chart provided. Still have to heat up the shrink wrap, but otherwise done. Almost made a pig's ear of this...managed to get a bridge of solder between pins 2 and 3 that was hard to remove:
Then I prepared the cap switches. Instructions said to fold back tabs to help avoid contact with display once mounted in project box:
Then I did the power switch:
Then the DPDT switch:
Then added the blocks for the connections to the CAN-BUSS board. NOTE: it's just been pointed out to me that my pictures show the single row wiring block on EXT2 sitting one pin over from where it's supposed to be (the one end of it is actually sitting over the blank space at the end of EXT2 instead of on the first pin). Please watch out for that, if you're using my pictures as a guide!:
And there you have it. Ready to install in the project box:
