Send Location to my LEAF

Tue Apr 12, 2011 12:40 pm

Is there an easy way to send an address from my computer to my LEAF's nav? Ideally I would like to look up an address on Google Maps and send it to my LEAF.

You can set up a route on your computer using Carwings (i.e. make a route from your home to a destination), name it, and send it to the leaf. The route will be available on the car's destination list. Selecting the route in the car will set your nav destination to the route's destination, and the car will compute a new route to get you there.

It would be cool if they allowed to show gps location of the car via Plan Your Route in Carwings
Currently: '12 Volt (12k) since 7/2012
Previously: '11 Leaf SL (w/ 12k miles & 16 month ownership)

Yep that capability already exists in carwings on the PC as described by DeaneG. I tested it out recently and it worked fine.

Thanks. I was aware of this function but was hoping there might be something more user friendly. I perform most of my address lookups on my desktop using Google Maps and I am hopeful that one day I will be able to send the address directly from the web site to my car.

Carwings in general is sluggish - and while I haven't messed with it yet, I think you can do it straight from Google Maps. Have you noticed the Google Maps 'Send to Car' feed in Carwings from the car's dash? (and the ability to make it a favorite/auto-update so it auto-updates when the car turns on?)

I've almost got it - but am missing one piece of info:

1. Go to http://maps.google.com/
2. enter in directions (like '123 elm st, 92069 to 123 main st, 92121) and click 'Search Maps' button to the right of the search box (very important - don't think send to car shows up without this)
3. Click on the 'send' link in the header bar (right side - envelope icon)
4. Choose 'Car' in the left side, name your directions, choose Nissan, enter your Carwings ACCOUNT# (note - Carwings nickname doesn't appear to work)
5. Hit Send.

Only problem is - I can't find my Carwings Account # and a URL id I pulled when logged into Nissan's site isn't working. With that, I have a feeling this will be MUCH easier than route planner.

Anyone know where our Carwings Accout #s are?

Good find.

I do not have my Leaf yet, but when I tried my Carwings PIN (which in my case matches my login name for nissanusa.com/owners/login - unsure if that is the same for everyone), Google Maps "accepted" it (The message I got was "Message was successfully sent to car!"). I tried even just changing a single letter in Carwings PIN and Google Maps would not accept it - so I believe it is the correct information needed. Whether or not it actually "goes" is something else entirely which I hopefully will be able to test myself in a week or so.

Me too. Not fond of Carwings, and won't be upping it when the free sub expires.

Just tried with my PIN (Nissan username, not Carwings Nickname) and it seems to have gone through - we'll see what happens when I get back to my car in an hour or so... it's definitely doing error checking on the field entry so I'm feeling pretty good it'll be there...

Agree with mwalsh - not up'ing carwings when it's done unless it's $10/year or something. (betting they try to charge $30/month)
