Very disappointing to see battery degradation on my barely 6 month old lizard pack. I had it replaced in the SoCal desert, then moved to the colder bay area. Was hoping the colder climate and my OCD attention to best charging practices would keep this pack in tip top shape but I think it doesn't seem to matter. It's starting it's slow decline.
Replaced in Jun 2015:
AHr: 66.54
SOH: 100%
Hx: 101%
Stats today Dec 2015:
AHr: 62.45
SOH: 96%
Hx: 93.83%
Average battery temp is 60F right now which is good considering we are having 40F nights here. I've done maybe 10 QC total since the replacement, all L1 in my garage or public L2s to top off.
Maybe I need to discharge to VLBW and charge up again to heat up the batteries a bit and see if the numbers change.
I've got a dealer in the area that is interested in it as a trade in because of the new battery pack. Might have to take him up on the offer and get myself an ICE vehicle that I won't have to worry about it being useless again in a year or two. This battery anxiety is for the birds.
Whoa! Slow down a little! Take a breath and look at the numbers. Based on how you are tracking, you probably have at least 4.5 years or more. I don't know what kind of mileage you put on, but you started tracking on this battery during the hottest months. Even if you loose another 4% this year, and 8% next year it still puts you at about 2 years till your first bar loss. The first bar is approximately 15% the remaining bars are 7ish%. In 4ish more years, you will have more options on electric vehicles including the ability even to probably replace your battery with a longer range one for a probably better price than they are selling for now.
Maybe you might be the type that needs to just quit tracking and crunching your numbers and just enjoy driving your car. You got a free replacement and yes we deserve those but if you have to save some relatively reasonable money for more battery (fuel) in your future, just plan for it. By then, the batteries may be more robust and larger for our cars. A person can choose to lament about a lot of things and drive themselves crazy. If you are truly an analytical person, search doggedly and gather all the correct information about what is troubling you, so you can put it to rest as soon as possible. Then you can more quickly move on knowing that you made the best decision you could have made with the information at the time. So... In my opinion, enjoy your car for 4ish more years and see what options are available at that time!
You probably got your (like brand new) car at a very reasonable price compared to new. Unlike someone who purchased new, you have a great advantage monetarily to add a battery (fuel) in your future and still have a very nice car. Yes, It would have been great if the original batteries lasted 10 years as first touted but your car with it's free replacement will make it around 8ish years from new. You may want to extend that when you get there. Don't sweat it so much... relax a little. Ha! I saw that you had a little hokey dealer replace your 12 volt battery! What a hoot! I know it was aggravating, but in time you may laugh too... well hopefully.
P.S I think someone, maybe me, will develop a 3rd party cooling system for our leafs. When all of these original 5 year warranties plus 1 year for replacement warranties expire, one of us engineers will develop something to cool our batteries to make them last longer. We will pick up where Nissan cut the corner.
