Some smartass wrote a large comment piece on this Leaf's battery degradation in John Peterson's latest fart (dated today) on EVs and Tesla. He essentially copied verbatim many of the comments from here to substantiate his case. Now I say the **** has really hit the roof.

Edit: I am not able to find that article in Seeking Alpha at this time, which was I was reading just a few hours ago. Maybe the site owner yanked it ?

oh great...i was afraid this was going to happen. i fully expect one of us to be quoted out of context on FOX news any day now

There were a couple of brief comments after the main comment, but then they went straight back to bashing Tesla. Seems like Tesla is their main objective...

No doubt, but it's not as if Nissan wasn't warned this would happen. Anybody with a few functioning gray cells could predict it.

Hi all,

New forum member here, and month 2 of Leaf ownership. In reading all of this thread of warm weather climate battery loss, i'm already getting concerned. With this summer, the entire US is a "warm weather" climate. I'm in Omaha, and it's been upper 90's for maybe a month already....

Is it THAT much hotter in Phoenix where so many folks been experiencing all the battery bar losses?

Judge for yourself. Here are historical averages for

Phoenix, AZ: http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/USAZ0166" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Omaha, NE: http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/USNE0363" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

PS I would say YES, DEFINITELY!

Yep, and besides the historical averages, compare these:

http://www.weather.com/outlook/health/allergies/monthly/USAZ0166?month=-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.weather.com/outlook/health/allergies/monthly/USNE0363?month=-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.weather.com/outlook/health/allergies/monthly/USAZ0166?month=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.weather.com/outlook/health/allergies/monthly/USNE0363?month=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Great data, thanks guys....

Buuuut... with this crazy heatwave, this summer has us well beyond "average historical data"

As others in the midwest, we've all been experiencing extended drought and heat hovering 100 for many weeks, and many weeks to come (so the weather weasels say)

So, reading... learning... trying to do all the right things.. charging to 80% and trying to avoid parking in the baking sun all day...

trying to stay ahead of danger, but call me worried in Omaha

Understood. Wish I could say, "but this is just a freak occurrence." However, I expect the heatwaves to get worse over the next few years. Climate change is no picnic!

There will be a "hot" story on the news tonight in Phoenix, featuring our car and a certain issue that Nissan will not be able to keep quiet much longer.

KPHO CBS 5
10pm news

If they post it online, I'll share the link.

I just noticed your leaf number is 500, I wonder which leaf on the list has the lowest number.

edit: jhm614 has leaf number 493

I didn't bother checking all the 1 bar leaf numbers, he has the lowest 2 bar leaft number.

one of the AZ LEAFs is #257...easy to remember since i am #258

My Leaf has lost 1 bar...I believe it was due to me charging with a level 3 than later finishing it off when it only needed 3 bars...I woke up to see that I had only 11 bars :( so everyone becareful about topping it off cause you can lose yours too. Atric Leaf is what I named my car I bought it on August 31,2011 I have 12,734 miles when I lost my 1 bar....I will use caution when using the level 3 quick charge....my car is just over 10 monthes old...

later people

There's a 3 Bar loser posting today on Nissan's Facebook page. Nissan has replied to him in a way that might indicate they are finally starting to pay a bit of attention to the matter. Look for the post written today by Scott Yarosh and Nissan's response directly underneath it.

The KPHO 6 pm news included a teaser for the 10pm story on the nissan battery capacity loss story. It said it woulld have "Nissan's response." That ought to be interesting.

Quick summary....

Nissan Facebook said:
Scott Yarosh I live in Phoenix, I lost my First bar at the beginning of April, Second bar first week of June, and Third bar First week of July. I still love my Leaf, but it will not get me to work 1-way in the next few weeks (45 miles). 2 different dealerships have told me this is normal.

Nissan LEAF Hi Scott Yarosh - Thanks for bringing this to our attention! We've been sharing feedback from this thread throughout Nissan and want to make sure we pass along your input as well. When you visited the two Nissan dealerships, did either of them provide you with an EV Battery Usage Report? Also, if you would please pass along the following information in a Private Message, we'd like to route you to EV Support so we can assign an After Sales Specialist to help answer your questions: 1) Delivery Date 2) VIN # 3) Name of Dealers you visited. - Jonathan C., Nissan Social

It looks to me that they aren't saying anything different than previously. First, they want him to get an EV battery report (which is probably going to be 5 star). Then, they want a specialist to "help answer his questions." No acknowledgement of problems or indication they are planning to do anything but stonewall.
