I was thinking about buying chrome letters to spell "24 kWh Li-ion" instead of "electric" - Maybe next time.
I followed the instructions - masking tape... But I decided I really liked the Zero Emission decal. See for yourself:
That's the best one I've seen yet. It's actually good enough I'm now thinking of doing it.

Thanks,
The only thing I would do differently is to place the electric 1/4" Higher - but now I'm just splitting hairs. It was easy, use the masking tape to guide you. Get a stool, sit comfortably and take your time. I had the hatch open and balanced at the point where it won't go up...

So you removed the zero emission badge and was able to reuse it, moving it a bit lower? Is that what I'm seeing?

Yes, I used some upholstery sewing thread to remove the ZeroE badge. If you are careful you can do it without damaging or removing much of the adhesive. After applying the "ELECTRIC" letters I re-applied the ZeroE Badge.

I think it looks great... Let the world know it's an electric car with zero emissions

I agree. The best choice I've seen so far. I just ordered my letters this evening. Gonna try to copy your design.

Glad to hear you like it. :D Nice blog BTW

Thanks, your blog is fun, too. BTW, my first car was a 1962 Corvair. LOVED that car!

Hatuey, thanks for sharing -- looks great! I might shamelessly steal your idea. Now I just need to figure out where to get some upholstery sewing thread!

I used upholstery thread because it's nylon, very strong and thin - plus I had some around. As long as it's strong thread and not too thick it should work. Just remember to take your time, work the thread up and down as you move across the badge, slowly.

hatuey - thanks for the inspiration! I had been trying to figure out what to do, and really liked the way yours came out. This is what it looks like on a Cayenne Red LEAF:

I had tried using dental floss to remove the zero emission badge. It started to separate the double-sided tape itself, but it released the right edge enough for me to just lift it off - s l o w l y. Also, I offset the zero emission badge slightly. And Randy, thanks for your idea of using the blue painters tape as a guide to get the ELECTRIC on the same level as the LEAF.

Nice job LEAFguy - I prefer left or right justified - but the ZeroE looks just as good centered below the ELECTRIC.

BTW nice blog...

Lookin' sharp there, Tony. I haven't given up, but I'm close. Gotta get the CA rebate, or go a'begging to my credit union. :(

Thanks! I should be able to pick up some nylon fishing line or similar thread material easily enough. Wow, with all the great mod info in this forum, I'll have various things ready for when my Leaf arrives... horn, badging, plug converter, extension cord, etc. :)

hatuey, the letters you chose look great. Would you please tell me where you got your letters and also the size, font, finish, etc.? I would like to order "100% ELECTRIC". I tried the following link, but the URL is missing characters.

The chrome leters can be ordered in small quantity from

http://www.chromelettersandnumbers.com/

1.02" italic chrome letters, numbers, etc. typically $2.75 each

Any luck with ordering from these folks? I placed the order weeks ago now and promptly received a shipping confirmation (w/o tracking). Numerous attempts to contact them have yielded no response! I've now filed a dispute claim...

Got my "Electric" badges off Ebay as suggested. I have decided to move the "Zero emmsions" badge to the center with "Electric" on the right. This seems to be more balanced. I'll load pics when it is done.

BUT, the DIY emblem is individual letters. Here's the link for the one easy to apply letters that have a backing that helps you to apply the letters in a straight line:
