240 vs. 208 Volt level II charging

The challenge is that there are number of combination of receptacle for 208V and 240V as well as 30 A and 50A rating. You have to prepare the right plug adapter to the receptacle for your charger plug. You can made the adapter yourself for different variation as long as the X, Y,Z to X,Y,W are...

    Siemens EVSE plug question

It is similar to my case. Since the dryer circuit has 30A breaker, I am pretty sure the wire size is Not #8. You will have to run a new set of #8 wires for a 40A breaker to support your EVSE. In my case, I had an unused dryer breakers (30A) and no room for main panel. I asked electrician to...

Quotes for 220v 30A outlet installation in Orange County

A piece of advice that the # of hours of labor to do wire conduit, junction box, replacing breaker is most likely within 2.5 hrs for a good electrician. The fee is mainly based on the labor hour. I have a electrician who wired my whole house for the job before. He charged $500 to cover 2 hrs of...

Is the standard trickle charging cable water/weatherproof?

Strictly speaking the connector came with mobile charger is not water proof but they are rated against water splash when connected to the connector housing in the car. I believe it is rated around IP 54 when they are connected. This should be acceptable for car being charged at outdoor charging...

    New Leaf owner--charging questions

There are quite number of chargers available now but pricing at $1000 is a ripped off when build material of chargers are fairly simple and low tech. I shopped around few months ago and ended up with Blink HQ which I would not recommend due to the financial situation of Blink company now...

Palo Alto to require EVSE wiring in new homes

Prepare for EVSE wiring is not a big deal when most of the new homes in Palo Alto could easily get 200A capacity of panel. An extra 40A breaker and ready connected outlet box in garage or nearby would meet the requirement. There is very small difference in $ between 100A and 200A on a new home...

9/17/13: ECOtality files for bankrupcy and gets Nissan loan

With 6.6kw charger option in Leaf, Blink L2 provide about 25% to 30% charging rate per hour. I typically spend $3 ($1/hr) to get Leaf fully charge when starting from 30% to 40% level. I think it is quite practical when you are running errand in town riding on Leaf.

    Power Max 16A or 30A?

If you are thinking the charger is only for your current Leaf SV purpose, your decision of power should be considered depending on your Leaf has 6.6kW option or not. With 6.6 kw, you should go for 30A. If I were you, the choice of 16A version is due to limitation of your household power...

    Blink QC charging fees

Blink QC started charging fee from the last week of July. I did not realize for the first few charges until looking close to the message after signed in with your Blink card. Again all Blink QC I have used in my area are limited to 34 mins / session of a charge.

    Blink QC charging fees

My experience on using Blink QC to 100% is unlikely achieved in one charge session. I've been using DCQC 3 to 5 times a week before they post fee on it. Each charge session is limited by time (< 35 minutes). I have done two session of charges consecutively to get the level near 98% but both...

EVSE with plug-in (Fed) or without

Recently, I come across few topics of purchasing decision on EVSE with plug-in / fed in this forum. Blink HQ installed

At this point, the unit is running fine. I try not to concern about the warranty yet. This unit is same as Bosch Max power from the same manufacture ( in China ). I do have confident the unit should last long. I still prefer the look of Blink comparing to Bosch. What I am worry now if the $100...

    Blink HQ EVSE home charger

The feel of inserting the plug to the car is no significant difference than the one come with the car. I would not say is very snug but it is slightly better fit to the port but post no resistance or any special attention required to perform it.

    Blink HQ EVSE home charger

Using it few times this week. So far it is operated very well. I do not notice any noise which is mentioned on other brand of EV system. I install the unit right between the two garage door. I think Blink HQ looks cool in my garage!

    Blink HQ installed

    1) User manual is including installation instruction. It is same as the installation manual of Bosch Power Max model. I cannot find online manual from Blink site. The unit has a ethernet port inside the connector compartment but it is for diagnostic purpose according to Blink. 2) No programmable...

    Blink HQ installed

Yes, it is the new HQ. It is hard wired only but I add power cord myself. You can easily find pre-fabricated power cord for the kind of 240V socket you want. I choose NEMA 14-50 for the future of charging other EV like Tesla. There are number of power cord you can choose from and mostly they are...

    Blink HQ installed

Just get this Blink HQ installed in my garage this weekend. Have electrician put in a 40A breaker and run #8 wire to a box with NEMA 15-50 socket. I thought mounting the HQ between the garage door is the best location. Blink activated $100 credit in my blink account as soon as the unit shipped.

    Blink HQ EVSE home charger

Just received the Blink HQ this weekend. Installed it and charged my Leaf first time at home using 240V. Took 2.5hrs from 60 % to 100%. :D The unit is pretty much same as Bosch Power Max. All dimension and manual are shared between both model except HD has time delay.

    Blink HQ EVSE home charger

The equipment is now available for order. I've been comparing Blink HQ with Bosch powermax and Schneider one. Both Schneider and Blink HQ have time delay function. Blink has price advantage over Schneider at this point of time although Bosch has several model to choose from with the lowest price...
