Recently, I come across few topics of purchasing decision on EVSE with plug-in / fed in this forum. I just want to share with my experience that EVSE that come with plug-in is typically $150 more than the one without and I've found the plug-in option is much convenient and sound safe t have it . However, it is very easy to prepare the plug-in option by yourself or your contractor at your choice. Indeed I would suggest to get a NEMA 14-50 type of power cord (40A rating) (runs about $15) and prepare a outlet with NEMA 14-50. Simply cap the neutral line at the connection side to the EVSE unit. Certainly you can get NEMA 6-50R for the outlet and either have contractor made connector and cable for you since 6-50 cable cord is not popular as the 14-50 cord which is commonly available for home dryer appliance. This is my 2 cent to share for those who is shopping for EVSE unit.
