If you take possession and ship it out of state, you probably pay the sales tax for the dealer's area.
If you purchase something and the seller ships it to you "by common carrier", then usually you do not pay the sales tax in the seller's area. However, there might be special rules for Auto Dealers.
In most/some states, you pay a "use" tax (iften equal to that state's sales tax) when you first register the car in the state.
So, you need to check the rules that apply ... in both states.
