Ok, now that Home Depot won't let you order one of these, is there another source to buy them at the $729 price?

not sure, but I think Home Depot will get them back in stock soon. When I ordered mine, put it in the "shopping cart", by the time I went to check out, it was "back ordered", but they let the order go through, and it did ship out. It looks like its getting a tour of the Southern US on its ways to Boston though, arriving on Monday so sais UPS...

Atlanta, GA, United States 09/14/2011 1:50 P.M. Arrival Scan
New Orleans, LA, United States 09/14/2011 4:41 A.M. Departure Scan

United States 09/12/2011 12:56 A.M. Order Processed: Ready for UPS

Could we start a list of people wanting to purchase the Schneider Electric EVSE? Or at least those wanting to purchase it from Home Depot for $729?

Look at it this way..... maybe I got one with the old firmware. I hope not but I won't know until December......
I would be surprised, but if this is a real concern, I would go ahead and contact Schneider now. My guess is they could determine from the serial number whether it has old or new. This way, you could get it fixed now instead of when you get your car (I'm assuming that's what December is about)

We don't even know if there is an issue, and some of us can't even order cars yet.
we are getting the EVSE to claim to federal tax credit in 2011, and the EV/PHEV will be in 2012, this maximizes your credit, as you could be subject to AMT if both are purchased in the same year.

this brings up another issue, the warranty may be expired before many can even test their EVSEs. It would be helpful if someone had a "J-1772 vehicle simulator tool", similar to what AV uses, so we could test the EVSE prior to delivery of something to actually try it with.

This could be a tool we rent, then return. I would be willing to pay something to verify the EVSE is working correctly...

I have made good relations with our Nissan dealer and they will let us borrow the demo for several hours this saturday; that will give us the chance to test the EVSE before returning the car in the evening. ;)

That works if there are any EVs or PHEVs in your area, there is nothing yet in the Boston area, or most of the East coast. The nearest Chevy Volt is at a dealer in Conneticut 65 miles away, and I don't even think they have a demo vehicle. The East coast is years behind the West coast, and the few other EV Project states.

I'm sure there are conversions in your area. You can find them here:
http://evalbum.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Owners of conversions are likely to be considering getting one of these:
http://www.tucsonev.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
or:
http://modularevpower.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You shouldn't have much trouble finding a conversion owner that is willing to test your EVSE.

I am a member of http://neeaa.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and http://www.electricauto.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; most of the conversions don't use J-1772 yet, and there are not many in MA that I am aware of. I am suggesting we build a test tool, consisting of a J-1772 Vehicle connector, and control logic to "simulate" and EV, and that we lend it out to members for the purpose of testing EVSEs.

The main web site is down, but some of the pages work:
http://neeaa.org/charging.htm#ma" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

How about order the evse so that you have the car within the 90 day return period.

nice idea, won't work in my case, as Nissan has only said "fall/winter 2011" for ordering, for the Toyota 2012 PHEV, who knows when that is as well, although delivery is supposed to be February/March 2012. I also want get the EVSE in this calendar year, for the 2011 Federal Tax Credit, and get the vehicle next year for the 2012 Federal Tax Credit ($2500 or $7500 depending on PHV or Leaf)

I know AV has a tool, perhaps I can find out where they are getting the ones they use to verify the EVSEs function

I guess I was being a bit sarcastic. I have my Leaf and could use it now if HD had not gone out of stock the same day. Once they have a real inventory you could have been comfortable ordering it in late December for taxes and probably have the car within the return period. ;)

No worries. :cool:
