Actually the lack of true luxury design is what kept me from buying a model S. Instead I got a roadster and a Leaf, which honestly is a better interior experience than the model S.

that's an interesting perspective. the roadster's I've been in where really not all that much to look at inside. what impressed me about them was their speed and handling and I had to shoe horn into them. The S has amazing styling both inside and out. it's interior style is minimalistic, contrasting the amazing touch screen and the multi function dash screen. it's pretty amazing to have whatever song is playing listed with album art on one side of the speedometer and a nice topo map with turn by turn showing on the other side. the minimalism and space age GUI is a fantastic style, IMHO.

I would also prefer a minimalist touch screen. About half size would be fine.
Besides I think S is marketed as a performance car more than luxury.
I will keep hoping Tesla will add all those luxury items you expect and hold the price steady.... and allow the current basic version to drop in price. ;)

The later half of that seems unlikely. As long as their production capacity is tapped out you can expect they will charge what the market will bear. They do need to demonstrate continued profitability...

If I understand this, $38.5 million loss for the quarter, with ZEV credits ramping down and R&D for the X ramping up, but high option-level Euro sales helping (normal for the initial buys). I couldn't find any projection by them as to when they might show a (GAAP) profit.

Need a giga-factory. Meanwhile isn't the LG chem plant for volt batteries mostly idle? (or was that a rumor)

Also wasn't the nissan battery plantin tennessee supposed to crank out 200k packs per year?

Not that any of that matters, as the market mostly shuns short range evs, while the line for teslas is wrapped around the building.

They need to plan a head for the Model X and more so for the Gen III/Model E/Bluestar.

Update: Just saw this article from an hour ago:

Shouldn't jump to conclusions, for all we know he had been tailgating out of the frunk.

The fire was not spontaneous and was, in fact, the result of an accident, according to Tesla. The blaze on Wednesday afternoon engulfed the front of the car. A spokeswoman for the Tennessee Highway Patrol said the Model S was headed east on Interstate 24 when it ran over a tow hitch. The hitch hit the undercarriage of the car, causing an electrical fire.

Doesn't say whether the fire started in the battery. Running over big hunks of metal can be bad in any car. Maybe it is a little worse to do so in a model S?

how many fords, chrysler, GM, toyotas, nissans and so on catch on fire?

a line from a website:
A motor vehicle contains many types of flammable materials, including flammable liquids like gasoline and oil as well as solid combustibles such as hose. Fuel leaks from ruptured fuel lines also can rapidly ignite.

I would suspect that an ICE vehicle is far more susceptible to accidental fires than any BEVs

the corrupt media is harping on this in order to demonize electric vehicles as per big business

The fire looks pretty much identical to the first one where the Seattle owner drove over road debris, so yeah, it's pretty safe to say one of the battery modules caught on fire.

Anyone run over anything big enough to significantly damage the LEAF's battery pack?

...“We have been in contact with the driver, who was not injured and believes the car saved his life,” Liz Jarvis-Shean, a spokeswoman for the Palo Alto, California-based company, said in an e-mail...

Sounds like this Tesla S drivers viewed his encounter with road debris as life-threatening event...

Hopefully, the NHTSA will investigate, so (unlike following the first Tesla S fire) we will find out what the actual collision damage, and the ignition and fuel sources were.

Edit-sounds like it will:
Third Tesla Model S fire raises fresh questions, NHTSA query

...NHTSA said Thursday it would get in touch with crash investigators in Tennesse to see whether it needs to take any additional steps. Ditlow says the data so far suggest NHTSA should open a formal probe...

There's a HUGE difference in the reaction of the LEAF battery chemistry than the chemistry of the Tesla, which REQUIRES temperature control, or there would be a whole bunch more fires!!!

The tradeoff, of course, is significantly higher energy density in the Tesla car.

Or, some sort of collusion? I can't help wondering.
I'm not suggesting foul play in any of these cases but short the stock, torch the car would be a pretty good strategy as long as nobody made the connection. This company loses about a billion in market cap on each of these events.
