A Tesla S battery replacement estimate of $45,000+ shown in the PDF at the post below.

I have it in writing (an official quote from the SC)...

Sounds to me like the S owner thinks he still has ~92% of "new" capacity, at ~22k miles, so I don't understand his immediate need for a new battery, myself.

He also appears to be measuring off of the listed 'rated range' which can vary.
If it really is 8% that is very high.

250/265=5.7%

How in the world is that 8%?

Actually, it was my experience early-on with the Leaf that prompted one of the S purchases by a neighbor... Now he has had the last laugh!

I know the feeling. I have an S across the street and one next door, and two Volt's down the street. I may have the cheapest electric car, but I was the first...

I tell people that the Nissan LEAF is the "gateway drug" to the Model S...

isn't that the truth! what's cool is that our neighborhood now has 5 EV's!!!
My neighborhood only has two and they are both mine :-(
Actually only one since one is a volt and we all know that isn't really an EV.
There is hope though, one neighbor is talking about getting a tesla and another said they would look at a plugin when their prius lease is up.
Progress is a bit more "measured" here in the sunshine state.

The text below does not do the video justice. Wow.

Here are some take aways from the event with Elon tonight:

- Germany is Top Focus for Tesla right now, planning big investments
- First 6 SuperCharger locations for Germany will be announced in a press release on Thursday
- SuperChargers will have 135kW
- there will be a free High Speed Performance Upgrade for the German Autobahn (also available as retrofit)
- until end of 2014 there will be 30 - 40 SuperCharger in Germany
- power folding mirrors can be retrofit
- the plan is to sell more Model S per person in Germany than in the US

lots of questions answered, I hope somebody can post a video

Update. Some more things he mentioned (but I might have gotten some details wrong)

- there will be an executive back seat option available in the future. But that will be only 4 seats and not 5.
- the springs of the seats generally will be also improved
- Panasonic will raise their production of cells to allow for a 'theoretical' weekly production of approx 1200 cars
- no plans for an electric E class from Mercedes, only B class which is already a big commitment for Mercedes
- assistive driving options (adaptive cruise control, lane control, dead spot detection) will be available probably by mid next year
- no plans for solar panels on cars
- new software update is coming in December
- no SC capabilities for roadster
