Is Nissan still offering a battery lease option at $100 a month? I am wondering If it would be a price wash with $2 gasoline. What happens if the car gets wrecked or sold during the lease?

After the hostile response on this forum, Nissan decided to not go forward with the battery lease option after all. AFAIK the only EV where you can do that (in US anyway) is the Smart ForTwo ED.

Hostile response? I was under the impression it was a $100/month financing option, not a lease. Why were people up in arms about it?

It still may not be the worst deal if it is warrantied against degradation for the life of the loan or lease. The bigger question would be insuring it for property loss in the event of an accident during the loan period.

People were also pissed because Nissan waited until the very last minute of “spring” when they promised a price but instead delivered a lease program and NO price nor any option to buy.

Holy crap that first thread is heavy. And it continues into another one. I guess before I bought the Leaf, I had read that Nissan was offering a new battery for $5500, or $100/month financing. I don't know where/when the whole lease option fit into it? Maybe I got my information after they announced a price?

After the backlash, Nissan went silent and a year later offered the $5499 purchase program: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?t=17168.

Notice the date on this post vs. my earlier one?
