I suspect the latter...

Not sure it helps that much to call attention to their more even ratio of CHAdeMO vs. CCS than all (or pretty much all) their other sites.

With two new sites coming in my area hopefully soon, will be very interested in seeing the configuration
TIL about "EVolve NY".

From a post over at https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/electrify-america-fast-chargers-huh.133558/page-35#post-5365590, miimura wrote:
"The EA app shows that this site is associated with the EVolveNY charger network. So, that is probably why it has better CHAdeMO support than other EA sites."

He then pointed to https://electrek.co/2020/09/23/nypas-evolve-ny-opens-first-of-many-350kw-charging-stations-that-will-blanket-the-state/.

Yep. Looking like no real change to EA's process; a special case situation here.

You all probably don't check out my local charging stuff I post here and Paul posts, for my region.

But I had an idea in regards to old Tesla charging stations.

For example, I know that here in Inyokern, Tesla has pulled a permit for a "v3" station with something like 12 or even 15 v3 super chargers.
Which means their old 4 stall V1 (?) here will really be useless, for Tesla. What are the chances Tesla could sell it off and a company like Charge point or EA could buy it and convert?

How much would EA have to change? I know the old 4 stalls actually are shared power, but even a 4 stall shared power station for EA or charge point would be far superior to what we have now. (If you didn't know, Inyokern has only two 1 stall DC sites at 50 kW each, and each of those two are brand new and at less than ideal locations). So EA buying the old tesla charger and converting it would actually be far superior than the "new" DC chargers that just opened. Tesla would also make some money selling the site off and recouping money for a site that basically no tesla will ever use again. Also shows how far behind the rest are compared to tesla.

Thoughts?

Tesla hopes that EA and every other charging network that supports non-Tesla cars dies.

Musk wants to be the first trillionare. Competing EVs might ruin that, and leave him stuck at just the richest man in America.

What tesla driver is going to use the old stalls when there are 15 new ones right next to the old ones? The only argument in favor of that is that ALL 15 V3 are full, something that I don't see happening in Inyokern for many, many years.

At the end of February there were 556 sites open/143 "Coming soon", compared to 538/144 at the end of January, a gain of 18 open sites.

Here's the list of road trip coverage expansion or gap filler "Coming soon" sites in the west I've been or will be monitoring, and consider most important for completion:

WA: Port Angeles and Aberdeen (U.S. 101); Leavenworth (U.S. 2); Poulsbo (S.R. 3/305/307).

Oregon: Bend (U.S. 97); Warrenton & Newport (U.S. 101).

CA: Greenfield & Solvang (U.S. 101); Placerville (U.S. 50); Los Banos, Lost Hills & Oceanside (I-5); Buck Meadows (S.R. 120); Fenner (I-40).

AZ: Quartzsite (I-10); Kingman (I-40).

NV: Lovelock & W. Wendover (I-80).

I doubt it would be cost effective for EA to "convert" these SuperChargers into CHAdeMO or CCS. The insides are completely different. The support costs (spares?) would avoid them wanting to do one-off non-repeatable items.

As for WetEV's comments: I'll call that out as total bunk. But you can believe what you want.

I figured the pedestals were total changeouts, but you also think the underground cabling and / or the transformers would be different? Too bad.

I got interrupted and posted a half-sentence by accident. I updated my post, but it replies to your comment. I would assume they have list of suppliers and equipment they have spares for. They would want to avoid a one-off of something that might not be up to their specs. (At least, I would if I were managing that build out).

Didn't miss it, I just consider that it's so close to both the Olympia (8.6 mi.) and the existing Lacey (6.8 mi.) QC sites that it provides no significant expansion of coverage for road trips, it just boosts capacity and redundancy (considering the fairly low reliability of activating a charge at EA sites, the latter's more important at the moment) . They'd need one(s) further east on U S. 12 and/or S.R. 7/165/410/706 to meet my criteria.

Ok. Signs of movement. Bellevue and Federal Way EA activated yesterday after ~ 17 months (based on comment by Federal Way resident. I only knew it had been " a while" ) . But then again, those wouldn't add to the discussion either

Thanks to a hint at https://www.chevybolt.org/threads/complimentary-charging-on-ea-today-in-tennessee.37628/, I tried my closest Electrify America site. All 3 DC FCs are showing "complimentary session" but one of them wouldn't start charging. Another one is working for me fine, for free.

I just plugged in and eventually, it auto started. Of course I didn't use any app, NFC or credit card.

If you have a compatible car with their DC FCs and it's a short drive, might be worth trying.

Before going, I was looking around for other forum posts or social media about this. Didn't find any other than https://twitter.com/AdlerCassie/status/1367193856794521600?s=20 from someone in an unknown area.

FWIW, the DC FC I'm using seems to have a dead credit card reader (black screen). The J1772 EVSE is also busted (says "charge unavailable" on the screen).

I wonder it's related to their rollout of a new version of their iOS app today: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/electrify-america/id1458030456.

update: https://www.chevybolt.org/threads/good-day-to-charge-at-ea-and-yet-another-reason-why-i-love-my-bolt.37633/ has the claimed reason why it was free.

Why complementary? New station launch or feelings of guilt from the massive overcharging?

LOL. I had no idea why when I was there but https://www.chevybolt.org/threads/good-day-to-charge-at-ea-and-yet-another-reason-why-i-love-my-bolt.37633/ says:
"There was a tech onsite repairing a station. He informed me that EA was performing a software upgrade on the system, and apparently has to take the payment system offline at ALL stations during the upgrade. That was fun."

My original guess was a major EA iOS app update (released 3/3) and some kind of known problems with it.

hmmmm, "all" the stations had to go offline for this update? Must have been some massive changes that it couldn't have been done in the middle of the night which would have resulted in much less revenue lost but then again, its our money they are spending so...

They weren't offline. They were set to free.

https://www.chevybolt.org/threads/good-day-to-charge-at-ea-and-yet-another-reason-why-i-love-my-bolt.37633/#post-589867 claims it's was still free for him today.

I meant the billing system.

Indeed. It's a fair amount of lost revenue. I'm seeing other posts in FB groups today with people still reporting free EA sessions, including one taken at a bit past noon (their unknown to me time zone).
