I have never leased before, I am a "Dave Ramsey" follower. He calls it a "fleece". BUT- I did lease my Leaf. I just don't like the idea of having an electric car with a battery that has degraded, even if only a little. I'll pay the penalty in both interest and lease-end fee ($395) so I can get the latest battery technology in 2016. The other reason was I don't pay any income tax so the tax credit was no good. But I learned that Nissan applies the tax credit as a "rebate" so that made the whole deal work for me. Here are the details:
2013 SV with Nav, no L3
-Gross Cap cost (price of the vehicle): $34,060.00
-Federal rebate from Nissan: $ 7,500.00
-Up front money from me: $ 2,500.00
-Adjusted Cap cost: $25,221.00
-Residual value (end of lease): $21,458.00
-Depreciation: $3,763
-Rent (Interest): $3,361
-Term: 24 months, 15,000 miles/yr.
-Total of Payments: $7,124
Monthly payment: $296.83
Also there will be a $100 per year road use fee (State of Washington) and a turn-in fee of $395 at end of lease.
So it looks like my total cost of ownership for the lease will be about $10,120.00. If I drive 30,000 miles (not likely) the cost is 34 cents/mile. Add the cost of electricity and you haveabout 42 cents/mile I reckon. Did I get screwed?
