You would need a crew of 5: 4 manning the dollies and a lookout on a radio to call a quick retreat...

One time a bunch of guys in HS just picked up a car and moved it, a fair distance I might add. Wonder how that would go with the light body and heavy batteries of a LEAF?

hey we did that! moved a Ford Fairlane which is heavier than a Leaf. we used about a dozen 2 X 4's and about 20 guys or so. it was easy. now we had to move it up about 20 steps. that was a bit tough. almost dropped the car a few times

Honestly, this is getting a little out of hand, folks. Sure, unplugging someone to plug in your own car is pretty darn rude (unless the charging lights indicate the car is done), but this is reaching a point where it reflects poorly on the /rest/ of us as well.

The original subject of this thread was pretty much exhausted ages ago, and it has continued on as a discussion of public charger site design, public policy, and community protocol. It might be better if the thread subject were renamed to something like "Public Charging Design and Use".

I don't have first hand experience but my understanding is with four dollies one person can move a car. Now that doesn't address the need for for a lookout. . .

Perhaps the possibility of being posted on a similar "Wall of Shame" would encourage better charging manners. In the Lake Tahoe area, home and business owners have paid little attention to an unenforced ordinance to latch one's trash bin. Fed up by bears chowing down, the locals have resorted to a new approach. . .

Of course, determining the owner of a car is a bit more difficult, but there are lots of capable Sherlocks out there.

What, the single joking post when talk about Vancouver traffic came up? That was one affectionate joke on the part of someone who drives around in BC quite often, repeating a joke often made by the Canadians who I go up to visit. If that offended you, I apologize.

My concern here is that we've got a 23-page thread wherein people are talking about keying other people's cars, or putting the cars up onto little wheeled platforms in order to move them in front of a fire hydrant or into a handicapped space to generate traffic violations or tickets for those whose behavior we don't approve of. Moreover, the thread is getting linked from places /outside this forum/, meaning people are following the links here and reading the thread out-of-context and potentially judging the EV community by those comments.

However, I concede that I may be overreacting here; if I'm the only one concerned by the tone this thread is taking, I'll butt out.

Online text is often very difficult to tell when someone is joking and being serious. Most people are not comedy writers so such is the nature of public forums. I would agree that people might also EMPHASIZE a bit more when they are (joking) about something in a controversial way. "Topics Gone Wild" is a whole other issue.

This article is talking mostly about businesses in non-compliance. I can see it working for homeowners, but I'm thinking that some of those non-compliant businesses welcome the extra advertising for their store and are being non-compliant on purpose.

So has MY ZEV been identified?

Is this him/her? Posted by a Jack S?

Just ignore. Finally looked thru the thread. Seems like he's already been located on FB before.

All this talk of "they took my J-plug without asking" has me thinking that inductive charging built into the parking space might have some appeal for popular/busy spots like at LAX...

(As much as I dislike the efficiency loss, the convenience factor is worth a lot.)

How many 15a generic outlets could be installed for each of those fancy inductive devices????

It's not generation it's distribution. If we have ten plugs in a parking facility all those plugs are on the same 120V 20A circuit. You don't have a dedicated circuit for every plug. This means exactly one EV could plug in. Plugging in even one additional EV will blow the circuit.

To support 10 EVs with trickle charging you'd need to rewire the facility to carry that load, either by wiring for 150A or by putting in ten 15A dedicated circuits (we're not in the building so I think you can use 15A circuits). But doing either would need either a 150 amp breaker or 5 open slots for half breakers at the panel.

Realistically you're talking about significantly upgrading the service and this is not cheap.
I doubt a 1500 amp panel to support 200 15a normal outlets would be a big deal for LAX. Do you see the work they are doing over there right now?
Not even a drop in the bucket compared to running the airport, shops, air conditioning etc.

The 15a 120v outlets should remain free. Then let Chargepoint collect a fee for the 30a 240v connection for those in a hurry.
