EVs in California may be exempt from paying tolls

Saw this article today and didn't see anything recent on this topic in the forum. Very interesting idea. Critics argue that EV drivers should have to pay their fair share for the roads. If passed, this law would make EV drivers exempt from tolls until 2015.

I would argue that as soon as gasoline drivers pay their fair share, EV drivers will pay theirs.

I've always felt that tolls are a stupid way to pay for roadworks to begin with. Locally, we have a number of bridges that are all tolled. Why those particular few miles of roadway need to collect tolls, eludes me. The rest of the highways that connect via the bridges would be of little use without them, and all of those miles are funded without tolls. Toll collection is an unnecessary bureaucracy and infrastructure. When I see toll booths I see legislated traffic snarls and untold hours of wasted time along with the pollution from all of the idling vehicles. Self-inflicted pain on multiple levels.
