The bolt should last over 10 years with very little maintenance

Really, and you know this as a fact, right?

I'm not sure, but isn't this a CARB requirement?

Huh ? How can "little" maintenance be a requirement ?

The carb requirement is that for PHEVs they need to give 10 year warranty on the battery ...

Some good video footage:

The roof shape looks sweet. The nose is blunt, with very minimal openings. The infilled plastic panels in the wheels give it nearly flat wheels (if they make it to production). The interior looks very spacious. The rear trailing edges of the fenders appear to have a slot that could provide good passive air flow in the cabin.

And the charge port...is in the wrong place.

Not only not in the nose, where it should be, but the drivers side fender location puts it even further from the right-side cables for all (?) ABB combo DCs, which seem likely to be the only significant option out there for public DC Charging when/if the Bolt is introduced.

So when the Bolt driver arrives at a charge site, he/she may be sorely disappointed, if the only space(s) open are too far to the left of the charger(s), for the cable to reach the Bolt's charge port.

Yeah, what's up with that, GM?

And that pertains to Tesla as well. What gives, Elon? Rear charging is so retro... Don't you think?

after 3 years in a Leaf I bough an I3 rex recently. I can now say the right rear is the worst position for the charge door but I knew that going in. Nose is best if you can hide it, drivers fender is the second best and wouldn't bother me at all.

On the Rex the fuel door is passenger fender, why in the world BMW didn't take a cue from GM and go drivers fender for the charge port is beyond me, arrogance.

The bmw guys should have all driven a Leaf for 3 months before finalizing the i3 design.

I've only owned a Leaf myself, but I agree. Front is best, front driver's side is a close second.

The irony is that BMW had experience from both the E-Mini AND the Active-E before finalizing the i3 design. All that time studying and analyzing, and they still got it wrong!

It's official now.
No timeline, but GM is saying $30K and more than 200 miles!

I'm glad to see more EV in the market, but at the same time, you need to take everything from any Marketing department from any company with a gain of salt. Otherwise, expect another "Gruntmaster 9000" to come out instead.

“Leveraging the industry-leading battery technology found in the Chevrolet Volt and Spark EV, the Bolt EV concept was developed as a game-changing, long-range pure electric for all 50 states, designed to offer more than a GM-estimated 200 miles of range at a target price of around $30,000.”

Whatever hyperbole it takes to outdo Elon's! GM just needs to project their 2020 market value exceeding
Apple's. That'll be one up on Elon projection of reaching Apple's by 2020.

So now the potential Model E has a potential competitor. But then again, a lot can happen in two years.

IMO, it's likely the LEAF gen 2 will beat the Bolt to market by 6 months to a year, and the Tesla 3 by ~2 years.

Ghosn has stated that the Leaf 2.0 will beat the Bolt to market. I wonder if he knew that Chevy was planning for it to arrive this soon. If so, the Leaf 2.0 will come sooner than I had expected. Or maybe he is expecting GM to slip by a few months? Either way, it is good to have a competitive race. I don't really care who beats whom. I just hope they both build the cars and up the ante for anyone competing in the EV space.

I bought my Leaf, so I plan to drive it at least for the rest of this decade. By 2020, maybe I can pick up an off-lease Bolt or Leaf 2.0 for a good price. Heck, if there is any meaningful infrastructure, maybe I can still keep the Leaf, and trade in the Insight instead! In the meantime, I still smile as I pass by the pump for >90% of my trips.

I expect Leaf to come before 2017 April - most probably 2016 end. Bolt will probably come in early to mid 2017. Model 3 in late 2017 or in 2018/19 - depending on how much slippage there will be.

Here is the interesting question - how much is 50 miles worth ?

Leaf 2 - 150 miles - $30k
Bolt - 200 miles - $38k
Model 3 - 200 miles = $40k

Will Leaf 2 actually have a 200 mile option (if so, at what extra cost) ?

We EV pioneers live in interesting (and exciting) times, indeed. And that is not a curse! :)

Yep, definitely not a concept...

Am I the only one who assume this was definitely going into production - and was not a concept ?

CEOs don't unveil mere concepts.
