J1772 plug/cable from China with proximity problem

I'm considering trying to install a micro-switch inside but it looks difficult to make it reliable. If that doesn't work I'll but a push-button on the EVSE box for disconnect. Since I'm the only one who uses it and typically the charging is done by time I remove it, its better than buying yet...

J1772 plug/cable from China with proximity problem

I ordered a J1772 connector from China for around $100 and got a big surprise during prototyping my EVSE circuit. I thought about using a micro-controller but realized its not really needed as I didn't have a development environment. But when I looked into the J1772 Proximity function, I...

Proximity Detection - Having trouble finding an explanation

Sorry, I should be more specific with my question. The J1772 spec shows a partial schematic but doesn't discuss how the the switch inside the J1772 connector and 330/150 ohm resistors and actual detection circuit uses them. Its the purpose both functionally and for safety or reliability of the...

Proximity Detection - Having trouble finding an explanation

I have designed my own EVSE but am having trouble finding a precise description of how the EV proximity detection actually works. Does anyone know what the J1772 spec or specifically the Nissan Leaf is looking for on the "proximity" pin to decide the connector is engaged. I've looked around and...

    I-Key System Fault

My Leaf ran out of charge and was towed home. I charged it and it refuses to go into Reverse or Drive and reports an "I-Key System Fault". Has anyone seen this and know of a solution. I tried both my electronic keys but neither makes a difference. thanks

Adapting conductive AVCON to J1773 plug with just wiring

Adapting conductive AVCON to J1773 plug with just wiring

Yes I made a typo with the 1773 ( 3 = 2) and was meaning 1772. I've read the answers but I'm still unclear if there are any hitches. I've got the AVCON receptacle pin out on a schematic of the AVCON I found online. Its a super-set of the J1772. I also read the pilot pin signaling ( 1KHz duty...

Adapting conductive AVCON to J1773 plug with just wiring

Has anyone seen an adapter that would allow the use of the 600 AVCON charging stations in California while we are waiting for Clipper Creek to upgrade them with their grant? My understanding is that the AVCON conductive interface is compatible with the J1773 Level 2 except the connector...

San Francisco Charging Stations - Know of any?

I signed up for a Chargepoint Card with Coulumb. It appears they sell the charging system and provide the networking so their customers ( like gas stations ) can charge whatever they want and Coulumb has arranged for billing. It says some are free and some charge. Their are 8 stations in the...

San Francisco Charging Stations - Know of any?

Yes I noticed the ones at the Civic Center show "restricted". Where do you get the Chargepoint card? At Coulumb? Do you know what you pay for the charging per kWh? Do you know how many chargers they have? Since it takes about 2 hours to get enough charge to barely get home, Its pretty risky...

San Francisco Charging Stations - Know of any?

I want to be able to drive from Sonoma County into San Francisco but charging stations seem to be few, far between, hard to find, risky they are not tied up and quite a problem. I've looked at the Coulumb Chargepoint, EV Project, and DOE Alternative Fueling Locator maps below and its tough to...

Carwings asking "accept" or "decline" every time I start Lea

Has anyone experienced upon starting the Leaf, on the navigation screen, to accept or decline - over and over. I would expect to be asked once and upon accepting, it would never do it again. I'm afraid to decline for fear of creating a problem so I just keep accepting over and over. Its getting...

Surprise: No Level-2 High charging for LEAF? 15A maximum!

I've looked at the problem and it's not terribly difficult. Everything attached to the AC path can be UL approved with only the pilot signal and controller connection to the pilot lead custom. It can be opto-isolated and powered by a UL approved +5v/+12V power lump plugged into the 120V outlet...

Surprise: No Level-2 High charging for LEAF? 15A maximum!

Has anyone seen Nissan documents that discuss the 3.3KW restriction on the Leaf? All of the Nissan documents have shown both the 3.3KW and 6.6KW and 4 and 8 hours respectively. Seems a bit like a bait and switch given it's in their presentations plus there was all the pressure to use the AV...

EVSE Installation, Info and Cost Comparison Thread

Has anyone seen any pricing and availability from Leviton? They have far more experience at this sort of thing and will probably get it into Home Depot or Lowes eventually while AV doesn't seem to have much consumer business or save.

EVSE Installation, Info and Cost Comparison Thread

I called Nissan and was transferred to AV and I explained how silly their quote was and asked if I could order just the EVSE and arrange the install myself. They said they had "recently" changed their policy ( after my CBS 5 news story was run) and would put me on their "waiting list". They said...

    EVSE Home Assessment Reports

After experiencing and reading all the confusion and apparent excessive pricing around the Nissan/Aerovironment EVSE assessment and installation, I decided to write to the San Francisco Bay Area CBS 5 Consumer Watch about the issue. They were quite interested due to the importance and...

EVSE Installation, Info and Cost Comparison Thread

During my assessment, the Electrician basically said he would "make good money" on "standard installs" ( He said I was standard even with the wiring in place). He also said more complex jobs cost another $750 if I needed a new sub-panel run from the house and he would make almost nothing. So it...
