Currently road taxes are very roughly based on the weight of the vehicle; heavier vehicles tend to use more fuel. It's not necessarily proportional, and there are many exceptions, but it is a rough correlation.

I think service and repair shops, inculding dealers, will be around for a while. The LEaf does need some service (brake and transaxle fluid changes, tires), eventually they will need batteries and repairs when it is off warranty. And the car is so computerized, I'm not sure anyone will be able to do their own repairs of most systems.

There is also lots of talk about electric cars being part of the power grid solution. Charging them when there is excess capacity, but supplying the grid when it is needed. Kind of a cool idea.
