Quite the journey today! I live in Corvallis. Today i traveled to Lincoln City on the coast. I headed North to Dallas, West on 18, to 101 S., to Lincoln city. had to go over the Coast Range, so there were some rather large climbs. at one point the lovely nav voice said "you may not make your destination"; yikes! I made it! Tried the two Charge Point chargers on SW 15th (73.6 miles), but neither would work (at least not level 2). i headed South another two miles (75.3 miles) to the two charge point chargers on SW 50th. thankfully these worked! spent a lovely day biking around (brought a folder along), eating and spending time on the beach. The way home i headed South to Newport, had dinner, then headed on hwy 20 home (75.5 miles). again some rather large climbs, "you may not make your destination", but i made it with 15 miles left showing :) yippee! what an awesome car!

i made a point of emailing the mayor of Lincoln City and i thanking him for providing the EV chargers. he soon replied back, saying i was the first to contact the city and offer thanks, and possibly the first to use the chargers. he wanted more info, so i described the above, and stressed that the chargers were the prime reason i visited the city and spent money there. i told him the charger installs were brilliant and would surely boost the local economy.

I continue to be thoroughly impressed with this car. Today i drove from Corvallis to Portland, almost entirely I-5, straight shot to the level 3 charger downtown, 55-65mph, a large portion i followed a truck and kept a steady 60mph. 79.5 miles total, no problem. Charged to 80% in about 30 minutes, then headed over to my friend's house in NE Portland. i topped off at a level 2, Blink station complete with a solar panel cover. Went home, again, almost entirely I-5, again 55-65mph, a large portion I followed another truck and kept a steady 60mph. 81.9 miles, total, 8 miles shown remaining. awesome!

Tomorrow I'll be doing an extended trip, however I'm fairly optimistic that it will be uneventful. I'll be driving the 48.4 miles from Hillsboro to Antique Powerland in Brooks for the annual Steam-Up!

I'm not only a big EV car nut, but I'm also a big EV streetcar nut. I volunteer with the Oregon Electric Railway Historical Society and will be out there running streetcars all day. I don't really know enough about the museum to give tours, but it's really awesome hearing those big electric motors whirl up from the 600 volt overhead wire.

I'll be charging up from their workshop in the back where they have a 240v outlet that I can plug into. Given the distance though, I'd be comfortable plugging into 120v for even just a couple of hours. I'll reset my miles per kWh meter and see what it gives at the end of the day, but it should be interesting since I'm taking the freeway most of the way there (and with a 65 MPH limit most of the time too).

Has anyone received a little gift in the mail from Nissan? I got a cute little model car a couple days ago.

I am really glad to hear that Lincoln City has chargers! I have a friend who is disabled and really wanted to go hit the casinos in LC, but I told her we'd have to maybe stay the night and find a 110V charging spot. This is great news!

I am still in love with my car. I've got a bit more than 5k miles on it now since May. I haven't had any scary power issues, and I do a mostly-highway commute every day from Hillsboro to Clackamas (and I see some of you when I do it!).

The result was 4.3 miles/kWh. It was 4.2 most the day, but on my way home went up to 4.3 and stayed there. Left with a 100% charge and arrived with just under 50% remaining (guessing by the "guess-o-gauge"). Plugged into a 120 volt plug for the day and came back with somewhere around 85-90% SOC. Got home with about 40% remaining.

Overall, the Leaf performed much better than I was expecting with the freeway travel, however I've been practicing taking it easy on the accelerator for the last few months.

That is great to hear.

I wonder how you got that. Did you sign up for it somewhere?

Yes UPS dropped it off a couple of days ago. It was unexpected and was accompanied by a letter from Nissan thanking us for purchasing the leaf! I'm assuming everyone will get it.

Did everyone get a new e-mail requesting response to a new survey? I thought the questions regarding the ordering process were a good opportunity to let Nissan know about some of the frustrations and inconsistencies that were experienced.

there are now two public, level 2, Blink chargers located at First Alternative Cooperative Grocery, 2855 NW Grant Street, in Corvallis. I work there, oversaw installation and successfully charged a bit. i listed the site in both Plugshare and Recargo. Soon there will be two more at our South Store at 1007 SE Third Street, Corvallis and at the Eastgate business park on hwy 34, about a mile North of downtown Corvallis.

I finally had my first wave from a fellow Leafer! If you were on Hwy 26 eastbound and waved at a black Leaf, hi!

You're the first person who's actually waved back.

Patrick - I didn't sign up for it specifically, no. It just came by UPS without warning. It may be that all of us who ordered early will get one, I'm not sure.

Hello,
I had a blue Leaf pull up behind me at a light in SE PDX. My first "smiles, waves, quickly say witty remark" encounter in the wild. Saw a red one cruising down Foster around 90th too (no waves - pretty sure he didn't see me).

Blue Leaf at breakfast at Mother's Bistro & Bar this morning. Waved to the car, but there was nobody inside. Third Leaf I see in Downtown, and I do not drive there very often. Glad to see more of them.

Does anyone know if the Eaton ChadeMo quick charger at Portland State is up and running? I am headed up to Portland tomorrow to play with a band at a block party. thanks for any info.

Well, if it isn't the one under the World Trade Center should be operational. Generally they charge $3 to park.

I have a quick question for everyone. I am looking for a compiled list of local charging stations in oregon. Anyone know where I might find one?

Thanks in advance.

The DOE is working on a compiled list, however it's several months out from being complete. Here are the major individual resources:

Blink Network: http://blinknetwork.com/locator.html
ChargePoint Network (Coulomb): http://www.mychargepoint.net/find-stations.php
Portland General Electric (Shorepower): http://www.portlandgeneral.com/community_environment/initiatives/electric_vehicles/charging_stations/charging_on_go.aspx
Nissan LEAF Dealer Lookup: http://www.nissanusa.com/leaf-electric-car/index#/leaf-electric-car/findDealer/index
Department of Energy (DOE) Old List (includes lots of the same ones as above): http://www.afdc.energy.gov/afdc/progs/ind_state.php/OR/ELEC
Department of Energy (DOE) New List: http://www.afdc.energy.gov/afdc/locator/stations/

There are a couple of random ones that aren't on any of those lists yet, but the DOE is supposed to start supporting public submissions starting very soon.

Stopped by on Sunday and it's definitely working. The signage currently doesn't give a time limit either, however last I heard they'll be implementing a maximum of 30 minutes of parking in front of the DC Quick Charger. I decided to try out the OpConnect station since I received my charging card on Saturday. Worked out great!

Anyone filled out the Alternative Fuel Vehicle or Fuel/Charging System form for Residential Tax Credit Certification? For the Nissan Leaf, with an onboard charger, section 6. Cost of Vehicle Charging/Fueling Station asks for the
i. Installed cost of vehicle charging/fueling station.
Is this the cost (MSRP) of the Leaf?
thx

Unfortunately, I think you'll need to give them a call to find out (I guess I will need to too).

http://oregon.gov/ENERGY/TRANS/hybridcr.shtml

It's pretty confusing because it also asks for the base price of a conventional vehicle by the same manufacturer (where the Nissan LEAF technically has none) and it refers to the "home charging system" and "vehicle charging station." The two credits we should qualify for are the $750 vehicle credit and a $750 vehicle charging system credit...

The form also states that the vehicle dealer should be assisting with the form, so maybe I'll call Wilsonville Nissan to see what needs to be done...
