There was an interesting documentary in 2006 years ago entitled "Who killed the electric car".

The owners of GM's EV1 were absolutely passionate about owning the EV1 electric car. Unfortunately GM recalled all EV1's and crushed them despite owners begging to keep the cars. Check out the wiki about the film and rent the movie if you get a chance. It will make you even more enthusiastic about getting your Nissan Leaf.

I watched these clips a few weeks ago. Be aware that the episodes overlap. If you look at some of the first comments starting at episode 2, most of them have a link so you can jump "into" the episode so you don't have to find where the new stuff starts manually.

Also, at the end, I had to seek out an additional episode with Greek subtitles to be able to finish the end of the movie.

Having said that, I enjoyed it. For what GM did to those EV customers, the cars, and the EV industry in general, there's no way I'd ever be able to support them in the future.

You're right Randy. There is about a 50% overlap in most of those youtube videos and if someone wants to watch the movie with them they'll have to manually drag the slider and find where they left off in the previous episode. Or even better yet, rent or buy the movie as Darrel suggested to support the producers of the movie.

Yes and it's very wrong what GM did to the EV1 and the people who owned them. I'm just glad that Nissan had the vision to see a future with electric cars.

This movie was not a big money maker for anybody involved. PLEASE rent or buy it instead of watching it on Youtube. That way, more of this sort of thing can be done... including the followup that is being produced as I type.

Ah, you must be talking about "Revenge of the electric car"

I bought the DVD a long time ago, it's only $14.49 on Amazon:

Oh... and here is my EV1 page that includes some video I've made.

Darell,
I LOVE your website ! Now you got me thinking about adding solar panels to the house. Hmmmmmmmm

It was a great website and video.

As for GM, it prompted me to look at 1999. Here from July 20th, the New York Times excerpt:
-------------------------
Pocketing higher profits even as its market share continues to erode, the General Motors Corporation said today that it earned $1.73 billion in the second quarter, a vast improvement over the $306 million it earned from continuing operations during the same period last year, when there was a costly strike.
-------------------------

One wonders where they might have gotten if they had kept that EV-1 'niche' going.

1) i agree that the money was not a big money maker and the people responsible for bringing a very important subject to the forefront should be rewarded, but at the same time, it is a very important subject and should be out there in a way that the maximum number of people can be exposed, and if utube be it, so be it.

Yes, buy WKTEC if you can! But just be SURE to watch it. It is very educational, Ex; did you know that Aerovironment developed the original EV1 Impact concept in 1990?, That California's EV Mandate was removed as part of a bait and switch with hydrogen?, That GM got the CA Mandate modified to say EV production would be based on "Consumer Demand"... and then cancel the EV1 waiting lists in the largest markets to claim their was no demand? WKTEC is very important right now because it documents how duplicitous GM was towards its EV1 and the political games it played. VERY interesting when we see the same duplicitous tricks in the Volt's marketing.

BTW - If you are on Facebook please "Like" Revenge of the Electric Car. When they get to 10,000 "Likes" they will release the trailer of the movie.
