I unscrewed the antenna sticking out of the roof because I wanted to put my ham radio antenna there (without running the coax across the roof)

Anyone ever remove the antenna long term? I would like to find a cap to put over the exposed connector.

Looks like a company called Cravenspeed makes one that is 4" long to replace the stock antenna - but at $19.99 is a bit pricy for a nut (though could be worse!). Eyeballing it it appears that it should fit without hitting your ham antenna...

But what if you simply offset your ham antenna by enough to miss the stock antenna? Would look a bit funky, I suppose.

Edit: Looking at eBay there's quite a selection of short antennas that should work and nearly all cheaper than the Cravenspeed.

Might a vacuum cap work? The large black one is the one I had in mind:

I didn't realize the mount was standard. Thanks, I'll take a look at some of those stubby antennas.

I ran across this.. says 52 sold??? At $915??

The 52 that bought them bought at 15.95. Seems like there is a typo in the listed price

This is the one I purchased. By the way, I mounted a nmo mount in front of the antenna.

Here is a photo of my antennas. I am dead set against mag mount antennas. Dirt gets under them and sand blasts the paint.

Is it standard SMA ( looks like it)? You could just screw on a terminator or shorting cap. I've seen some shark fins for sale on eBay that can go there, but if it was me I think I would just use it as an attachment for something useful... like a trebuchet or something like that.

Hmm, I like the direct NMO mount, but I doubt NMAC would appreciate me drilling a hole in their roof. lol. If I decide to keep it in Jan, I'll probably do this.

TickTock, I initially thought it was some sort of coax connector but looking at it, it's just an M5 threaded stud. I may just turn something down on the lathe and make my own "antenna"/cap.

I had no problem with my previous Leaf or for that matter a long string of previous cars. There was never a problem or deduction.

I used to remove the mount and put in a rubber hole plug. Lately I just leave the mount. Thats what I did when Connell Nissan took my red Leaf.

Wow really? I never would have though it wouldn't be a problem.

I think a full blown low band antenna would be a problem but the 3/4 inch hole has never been a problem. It used to be very common to have a cellular antenna.

I see my old Leaf on Ebay but you can not see what they did about the mount. That is the only hole. Everything else was 3M super velcro'd in place. You can see the added USB/Cigarette outlet that was firmly in place.
