I am wondering if I would be a good 'candidate' for owning an electric vehicle like a Nissan Leaf.
I'm a cyclist, and have been bike commuting to work for the past 4ish years. We have recently moved to a town that is not bike friendly (for now). Too many potholes, too many vehicles on the road, and not enough route options to get to work with a safe route.
My workplace is usually 5 1/2 miles each way, so 11 or so miles a day. Every once in a while can be a 11 1/2 mile each way trip, so 23 miles round trip.
I have found a used 2013 SV with 15000 or so miles, for a decent price.
We have a gas guzzling Mazda CX-9 as a second car, as we have two children. Both in car seats.
I'm excited about not having to fill up so frequently like I have been lately with our CX-9. It's just not efficient enough. However, I really do need a vehicle for when I don't bike commute. I don't like leaving my wife at home with the kids when I take our one vehicle to work.
So, as this would be a second car for us, mainly mine for safely getting to work and running errands around town, do you all think this is a good idea or will I be disappointed?
