So currently, what is the best base price for a level 2 charger? I don't trust amazon on this, because when I before, I was able to find much better prices elsewhere.

I remember last summer, a company was advertising an upcoming charger for $450, but I don't know if that ever materialized, as I have only been using level 1 for the last 8 months.

I'm sure I will get many replies pointing to already existing threads.

I got really good service from evchargesolutions.com when I bought my Bosch PowerMAX EVSE 30A. He is currently selling it at $593 for the 18' cord and $749 for the 25' cord.

Do you care if it plugs in or is it okay if it is hard-wired? Or are you looking for a portable solution that you'll carry in your trunk?
Does it have to be 30 amps or are you okay with less current?
What length of cord do you need for the J1772 plug?

These answers will help us point you to the best solution...

I don't care if it is plug in or hardwired. Cord length is also not an issue (I'm assuming they have some based length equal to what comes with the car). It also doesn't have to be 30 amps (I'm pretty easy) I'm just looking for the low price leader.

It looks like EV West is pretty competitive on price and they have a wide selection.

Clipper Creek has a cost effective unit but I still believe the best option is sending in your stock
EVSE to http://evseupgrade.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

thanks

Yeah, those are looking some pretty good prices...though I do find $23.88 for a "Clipper Creek J1772 EV Charge Station Holster for EVSE, Universal Fit" pretty funny. its plastic, it should cost 5 bucks at most.

guess they need to make up their money somewhere.

I do like this option to, but I'm leasing, and was told not to change anything (even if it improves the value of the car)!

Absolutely no problem. When it's time to turn in your lease, just swap your unit with another LEAF owner who would like an upgrade. They might even be willing to throw in a few bucks. In another few months, I'll be making my upgrade available this way, most likely.

Other options: EVSEUpgrade themselves have stated they are willing to do this service (straight up swap for an unmodified unit). Others have simply turned in the modified unit, with no push back. You could also swap the new plug for a regular 5-15 plug, and no one would be any the wiser that it had ever been modified.

You have given me something to think on. The only problem I see so far is that Leafs are a lot rarer in Milwaukee (I have only see 1 other).

I'm leasing and had the EvseUpgrade done and bought a bunch of adapters to go with it. It works great when I'm on a road trip and the planned DCQC station is down or in use. When my lease is up, I'll either swap it to the new Leaf or swap it with someone who wants it if I go another route.

I purchased the Bosch PowerMax 30amp (18' cord) from Amazon. Best price on it I found after looking for several weeks. I just checked and it is $565/free shipping (tax will depend on your location)

Very happy with it so far, only complaint is that the on-board charge timer really underestimates it and I have to set the timer to almost 2 hours later than I want to leave to keep it from sitting at 100% for too long.

FWIW: I bought this Schneider unit from Home Depot:http://www.homedepot.com/p/Schneider-Electric-EVlink-30-Amp-Generation-2-5-Enhanced-Model-Indoor-Electric-Vehicle-Charging-Station-EV230WS/203670265 It's $600.00 w/free shipping, and the reviews are good.

Mine has been in service for about 3 weeks now and works flawlessly. It has the ability to delay the start of charge for up to 8 hours in order to take advantage of TOU discounts. Unfortunately, I don't have that option here, but I tried the delay and it works fine.

Schneider seems to be Square D, and I've always been impressed with their equipment.
