hate the state you live in for not having the same plug in requirements of CA. start by doing something in your control. get your neighbors to sign a petition giving you equal chance to enjoy the best driving electric has to offer!
Tie car sales and plug-ins together .... BEVs are going to have a harder and harder time as more and more PHEVs are out and people save a lot in gas money...not all but a lot. These folks will mainly just charge AT HOME. Any further distances will just use their backup. Sure some can charge at work and some will do some opportunity charging while it is free.

Yet another strong competitor...the Honda According coming out Jan 2013.

Noteably as well...
...the EPA has decided that the Accord PHEV qualifies as an enhanced AT-PZEV, which means HOV lane access in California if you get a Green Clean Air Vehicle Sticker.

2012 Nissan Leaf Gets Even Cheaper: Now, $139/Month Lease

Which is how it comes to pass that you can lease a brand-new Nissan Leaf SL battery-electric car for a mere $139 a month with $2,995 down.

The lower-than-ever lease deal is available from Boardwalk Nissan in Redwood City, California, and potentially a number of other dealers as well.

The 24-month lease allows 1,000 miles per month--12,000 a year--and is offered through October 31.

It's worth noting that the deal applies not to the bare-bones Leaf SV model, but the higher trim level SL, which represents the bulk of Leaf deliveries and includes a standard quick-charging port.

The total cost at the end of 24 months is:

2995 + 1200 (TTR) + 139*24 = $7531

That comes to about $314 per month if you did no money down and included TTR into the monthly payment. Not sure if this is as great as they make it out to be..

Actually, if you save ~ $100 a month on gas (as compared with electricity cost) and take into account you get the first two years of use with the largest % of the new battery capacity, for ~$7 dollars a day, either option sounds like a hell of a good deal, and probably one of the cheapest new car options in the market, to me.

Another reason leasing would have been a good idea. Incentives like this kill resale value. If Nissan can't move over a thousand units at this price point the Leaf is in serious trouble.

Agree that the lease isn't all that attractive once you start crunching the numbers. Not only is the lease $314/month, I don't think two year leases are eligible for the $2500 CARB rebate.

You can always do what I did. I leased for 36 months, not 24, and wrote Boardwalk a check for $2,500. State is going to cut me that check back, and my payment is in the $200 range. Net to me is $0 out of pocket once I get the check back.

I don't recommend that, as I never recommend a down payment on a lease.

Should the car be stolen / totaled the first day you have the car, your "down payment" in virtually every case is GONE !!!

It is far smarter to pay monthly for the lease, when the payment is due. If your car were wrecked, you'd still have $2500 in your pocket (had you not given that to the dealer).

Looking at all the lease offers and new member purchases, I am expecting October sale numbers to be over 1,000 sales in the U.S. keeping my fingers crossed!!

Paul Scott predicts records sales month.

October Volt sales were 2961. http://insideevs.com/chevrolet-volt-has-best-month-ever-with-2961-evs-sold/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I guess this number should be in the October sales thread discussion, which doesn't yet exist. Having a new thread for every month doesn't work well. Too chopped up.
