Vacaville Nissan. Although it took an act of congress to get the guy to even go ask.. He started out trying to convince me that they did not know the price because Nissan had not set the price. This was just last Friday. Once I accused of him of tring to BS me, he went and asked. He says his general manager assures me that there will be no dealer mark-up. Sounds very Apteraish.

I think several posts today make the debate on this moot, fortunately!

According to Perry, there are major differences between a LEAF sale and a conventional car sale that should put to rest the question of price gouging. “The difference in the distribution process is, it’s not an allocation to the dealer, it’s a customer order, so [the customers] have the control,” said Perry on the sidelines of the groundbreaking event. As he explains it, if you go to any particular dealer and say ‘I have an order, would you like to deliver my lease?’ and they come back with a price $5,000 higher than list, you can simply take your order and go to another dealer. In this system, the people with multiple Nissan dealerships in their area will be at an advantage, but even the folks with only 2 or 3 within 60 miles will have excellent bargaining power.

Not really - it just means we now are sure we can select the dealer we want - like many of us were guessing.

See the below.

So, all what we are doing with this list is to go directly to a dealer we know won't try to over charge instead of wasting time at a greedy dealer.

i still find it unfathomable that a dealer would try to add any premium to a car that was offered in the way the initial launch of the Leaf was.

this is purely marketing and the best way to derail a successful marketing campaign is a "bait and switch" tactic where some dealers are offering MSRP and some are not. i dont think that Nissan expects us to "gamble" our dealer choice in this situation.

the excuse that a dealer can charge a premium due to "market demand" is laughable. this is a product introduction. of course there is greater demand than there is product. the expected output for the Leaf is expected to be 1/10th the normal capacity. like duh

i purchased my 2010 Prius on the Priority Purchase Program at a significant discount. although i had no issues with my dealer, there were some reports of other dealers adding excessive "dealer prep" fees most of which are limited by state laws. Toyota Corporate was pro-active in addressing these concerns and everyone did end up getting their car at the price stated along with basic transportation and prep fees only.

i expect the Leaf to be handled the exact same way

Sent an email to Mossy Nissan in San Diego to find out their price point. Will report when hear anything back.

This is what they told me. I have not selected any of the dealers as a "preferred" dealer.

"Thanks for choosing us as your preferred Nissan LEAF dealer. My name is ******** and I am the Nissan LEAF manager here at Mossy. Unfortunately, it is still too early to know our exact pricing on the car. We are currently still talking with Nissan about the final details. As soon as we know, I will contact you personally. I appreciate you taking the time to email us and please feel free to do so in the future with any other questions"

Yep. I called Mossy Houston's Leaf guy today, but only managed to get his voicemail. Someone else at Mossy Houston told me that they've never sold a car over MSRP. I find it difficult to believe, and I suspect it doesn't include things like mandatory dealer add-ons...

Yes, thats the kind of response I got from one of the dealers. I put that in not ready to commit to sell @ msrp. Don't deal with them - if you have other choices who are ready to commit.

BTW, eventually I think we should have just dealer names in this thread. I might periodically move other posts from here to a new thread I'll create at some point.

Serramonte Nissan, Colma, CA, is offering the GT-R with no markup. I would expect that they'd do the same for the Leaf:

Before seeing this, I e-mailed Nissan of Elk Grove and verified they will sell for MSRP. I also e-mailed my local Stockton Nissan. Their internet sales person says I would have to "negotiate" a price with them. Yeah right.

It seems that it will NOT be like they have a LEAF to sell to you.

Instead, you will have some "customer order" for your LEAF, and allow them to "have" the sale, IF you like the "deal" that you negotiate with them.

Otherwise, you go to another dealer.

Maybe all (most) LEAF sales will be $100 under MSRP? ;)

I've been in contact with Dave Lewis from NoEG and he is excited about the Leaf. He has indicated via email and phone that they don't sell any cars including the Leaf over MSRP. I did not even try Stockton Nissan as they are a bunch of "crooks" according to all my friends who have done business with them. I'd highly recommend Elk Grove for anybody who is within 100 miles of their store.
