New 2016 Leaf SV purchase

MSRP: $35,420
Rebate: $5,000
Dealer $: 3,598
Tax: $1,720
Trade in (Leaf S 2013) equity: $5,048

I thought this was a pretty darn good deal on a 2016 SV in Colorado. Traded in my 2013 with 36,000 miles. I effectively have 15,000 cash in a new vehicle with 0 miles and that includes paying 2,000 in state sales tax.

Colorado, Empire Lakewood Nissan, talk to Dustin if you want a similar deal and we can each get another 100 cash!

Awesome deal! I'm in a similar situation, trying to trade in my 2013 S for a 2016 SV lease. I don't get the Colorado rebate though unfortunately. I'll post what I get when I receive a quote.

Leafdom, That is an AMAZING DEAL. I live in San Joaquin County in CA. I would get $2500 CA + $3000 SJ Valley Air Resources Board Rebate so I would get pretty close to your deal. My 2013 SL lease expires 4/7/16, but I'm waiting for the longer range Leaf or (gulp!) a Bolt.

I just signed a 3 year 45000 mile contract.....I was going over the details of the contract and I do not want the 2500 dollar pre paid maintenance agreement for the term of the lease.....it makes a 100 dollar a month payment difference.....after reviewing the lease contract sec 4, rebates 9700 +4740 cash=$14440.00...section 5 gross capitalized cost 38094-2500=35594 ,the 2500 represents PMA,.....readjusted gross capitalized cost 35594.....minus capitalized cost reduction, which is described as amt of net trade in, rebates non cash credit or cash u pay that reduces gross capitalized cost, Down payment,.....I paid 4740 cash down....plus rebate of 9700 equals 14440....the dealer recorded capitalized cost reduction as 13455.28.....and I think it should be the 14440.....so formula should be 35594 minus 14440 equals 21154 minus residual value 13445.30 equals 7708.70.....plus rent charge 1864.50 equals 9573.2 divided by 36 months equals 265.222.....that's what I think my monthly lease should be.....not the 362.72 on the signed lease.....question.....can I get out of pre paid maintenance agreement????? plus I'm thinking the capitalized cost reduction is different on section 5b.....dealer recorded 13455.28...I think it should be the same as section 4..... 9700 rebate plus 4740 cash down.....equals 14440..... if anyone is familiar with the Nissan motor acceptance corporation signature lease agreement.....please advise.....Thank you....

A general response: dealerships will make these "mistakes" (that almost always seem to benefit them, not you) if they think they will get away with them. If you signed a separate form for prepaid maintenance, you may be screwed. If not, fight it. If the math on the lease is patently wrong, then you should be able to void and renegotiate it.

Hi,

I'm looking to lease a Leaf. First time I've ever leased anything. I've been reading up in this very helpful forum, trying to understand how to best evaluate a lease offer.

this is the offer I got from my dealer. I asked for the following details and he replied with this:
------------
MSRP: $31,810
CAP COST:$26,650
RESIDUAL:$9861.10
MONEY FACTOR: .00003
Acquisition fee:$595
Disposition fee:$395

Any other questions that I can answer for you?

You also get the following:
- $2500 back from the state
- 24 months of free charge card
- Up to $7500 federal tax credit
- Free detail

Any thoughts? Doesnt' seem like a very good deal to me because of the residual being so low. Can someone explain how I would calculate the cost to me? Is it the cap - resid?
Whats the difference between cap and msrp?

Thanks a lot sorry for the newbie questions.

What's the term (36 months?) and mileage allowance? Also, you don't get the 7500 tax credit since this is a lease. I thought NMAC were either using the tax credit to bump up the residual or lower the cap cost, but it seems in this case, you're getting neither and it's a pretty lousy deal, IMHO.

Hmmm...I am thinking with 325,000 EV buyers making reservations on the Tesla 3, that these people will carry on driving whatever they are now driving until the 3 arrives. Could be all the lower range EV's such as the Leaf will have to do a price drop as the dealer's lots fill with inventory. I own a Tesla S for 3 years now and I have a 3 on order for my wife, and one for my son. Thing is my wife's Prius is a misery to drive. I am a buyer kind of guy, not a leaser. If the Leaf SV drops just a tad more, I'm buying one!

I just asked a local dealer for a quote on a 2016 SV lease. I plunked down the 1k for the Model 3 before the reveal, but I only have one car in my household right now and I need another. I've also been wanting an EV for over 5 years, so there's no way that 2nd car is not electric.

I've also asked a local dealer to work up a quote on a Soul EV+, which is apparently available here in oil country now. I test drove a used one at Carmax last weekend. It was fine, but they didn't depreciate it at all over the cost of a new one minus the tax credit.

Decide if you want the optioned SV, which will be more expensive and harder to negotiate down, or the "Base" SV without the Premium Package, which is harder for them to move. If a quote seems good and it doesn't mention "premium," assume that it is a Base.

This is what they offered. They have to truck the car in because they don't have one nearby, and it would still not have a color combo I could live with.

Base SV 24-month lease
Price including Dealer Installed Accessories - $33,891
Manufacturer to Customer Rebate $9,800

Total $24,091.00
MF .00003
Residual 39%

$1,000 Down - $552.42 per month
$2,000 Down - $507.82 per month
$3,000 Down - $463.22

This includes taxes, which would be around $1,506 since Texas taxes the full cost and not just the part you 'use'.

This is approaching the cost of an i3 lease.

Thank you very much for posting this. It's nice to hear about the current lease offers from different parts of the country.

In comparison, this lease offer seems high when looking at 2016 Leaf offers in New England. Granted, Massachusetts and Connecticut both have a $3,000 state incentive, still even without that, the lease rates would be lower.

What you could do, is ask dealerships in your area, that actually have a 2016 SV in stock, for their lease rates. I do not know what part of Houston you come from, still looking at nissanusa.com - with the shopping tools and search inventory - with ZIP code 77001 it says that 11 2016 SVs are in dealer inventory... :)

Of those 11 Leafs, 6 are without premium package, and 5 come with it. You mentioning not finding the color combo you want, you would also be able to see the color combos available on nissanusa.com
Me personally, I love the Pearl White exterior with the light gray interior, and no, even the light seats do not stain easily, at least when taking good care of the car. :) The vehicle interior also heats up much less having a light interior when parked in the sunshine. :) What color combo are you looking for?

A dealership not having a 2016 Leaf SV in stock, might quote you a higher price because they don't have the pressure to get it off of their lot, like the dealership they would truck it in from. Also, not all dealers do swaps with each other, so maybe there is a Leaf in your color combo nearby but they can't offer it because they don't swap with that dealership. That's why I'd suggest, contacting some of the dealerships that have a 2016 SV in stock, and get lease rates from them.

The great thing is, the Houston metro area is huge, meaning full of Nissan dealerships all around, so you should be able to find what you're looking for at a cheaper price, shopping around. If you lived in Alpine, TX and the closest Nissan dealership is 150 miles away, it would be a tad bit harder... ;-)

Hi LookingFor2016Leaf

Please could you kindly share what are the current great offers we have in New England? Certainly, I may have missed them even though I am doing my best to go thru' as many threads I can here on this forum. I would like to a plunge if they are fair. Thanks in advance.

Lease seems to be the better deal, since you recieve the credit for the full/nearly full tax credit right off the bat, and after three years you can decide to keep it or return it. If you keep it, the cost is about the same as buying it originally, if they offer an incentive at that point, it is an even better deal.
