Is it really worth it buying strip-down models. I always buy the top model, because in the end it adds only a few bucks to the monthly payments and since it is a long-term investment, might as well go the whole enchilada with all the bells whistles and trimmings.
You won't feel cheap or cheated in the top-of-the-line vehicle.
You deserve it! Treat yourself.

Some people don't care about the extra features (which seem to break in the long term in my experience). I got the base model 2011 and have no regrets. I don't miss the solar panel (a joke), the fog lights or whatever else they added on.

And if you are making monthly payments you are paying interest on those extras. I mean if you want the extra features go for it.. but I think there are many who are happy with the base model. Heck the base LEAF has more features than alot of other loaded cars out there.

Yeah I don't really miss the rear view camera of the SL as the car's outward visibility is pretty good compared to other cars I've driven. Fog lights IMHO are largely useless (I've had them on other cars) and I was able to get the cargo cover as a separate dealer accessory.

The QC port would be useful in theory, but the reality is in my area there currently are none in the areas of LA County I frequent the most, and the closest QC station is 15 miles away. If this were to improve by the time my lease ends, if I don't go for a new 2015/2016 Leaf (or something else) I might consider a CPO'd 2012 SL.

There isn't tax on the $7,500 rebate per se, you simply pay tax on the full value of the car. It is the same as if you have a trade-in: it doesn't reduce the sales tax that you pay on the new vehicle cost as it does in many states. California has always been that way.

I spoke to him. Nice guy, but not a great deal. I did learn another aspect of the cheap $199 deal. In addition to the $2000 up front fee, there is CA sales tax on the $7500 federal tax credit, which adds another $600-$700 on top for Jerry Brown.

For California leases, you have to pay sales tax on the Capitalized Cost Reduction, including any portions donated by someone else (in this case, the $7500 Federal EV credit, and the $2650 Nissan incentive cash), as well as on the monthly lease payment.

It sounds like a ripoff to pay sales tax on what's basically the down payment, but keep in mind you're still not paying sales tax on the stated Residual Value unless you decide to purchase the car at lease end.

Antwerpen Nissan in Clarksville, MD has a silver SL with premium package, I dropped by yesterday and the window sticker held no surprises for followers of this thread. The seats have a little more lumbar support but still not enough. Wow, is that interior black. Absolutely no contrasting colors whatsoever and very dour inside. I'd like an easier to clean interior (not necessarily leather but a more stain resistant and wipeable material) but a completely black leather interior is not really suited to the LEAF's character, IMO, and an uninspiring design choice.

Nissan should have looked at the retrimmed leather seats done by Skyline seating that can be found in another thread on this forum, much more attractive.

The salesman I talked to insisted he could get no more than 15k at auction for my '12SL with 2000 miles so not much point talking to him. I take my baths at home.

That is not very encouraging to trade for 2013 and maybe a reason that no one reported that is driving 13 already.

Few pictures of 13 slate SL and base S

You might give Car Max a try. They might give you a better price than the dealer.

I didn't put much credence into what he was saying as he was bolstering his claim with a story about an 11 that he knows of that didn't sell until a few weeks ago and then only at 11k. I found that hard to believe but I love a great story as much as the next guy so I nodded along.

One other point the salesman made was that it's now a 125 mi range car and not 100 mi like the old ones. This was the other reason I didn't stick around long, besides his reticence to demonstrate the heat pump heater and his suggestion to come back when their resident LEAF guru will be on the floor. His grasp of numbers as they pertain to the LEAF seemed pretty tenuous.

I guess this is to be expected with a specialist car sold by a mass market brand. I can just imagine what it must have been like back in the early 90s when Alfa Romeo tried to sell cars through Chrysler dealerships.

And car salesmen are usually a very reliable source for used vehicle pricing information...

The two most recent LEAF auction sales on EBAY:

2012 with 6k miles sold for ~$21.5 k:

2011 with 27k miles and 11 capacity bars sold for $16.6 k:

2012 is still for sale, I will never buy a car from ebay with "private listing - bidders' identities protected" bidding.

I don't see the current listing, but the car was shown sold earlier (at a higher price).

I would be shocked, Shocked!, to find out that there was shill bidding occurring at EBAY, or any other public auction...

From Nissan Leaf Facebook. Should be expect big changes when all is done and if so up or down?
The 2013 LEAF has an estimated 75 mile range based on Nissan’s testing using the EPAs test requirement. However, the EPA is testing the LEAF currently so final range will be announced once that is completed. We'll be sure to share the official announcement on the Facebook Page at that time. - Jonathan C., Nissan Social

Good lord! The 100 mile figure was already a BS figure to be telling potential customers, so somehow going from 73 to 75 miles of EPA range == a jump to 125 miles?

Nobody at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=11201" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; thought 100 miles was the right figure to people for the '12 Leaf even though I and others have heard that BS.

:D :D It's a good day! Just signed all my paperwork for the lease on a 2013 S Model. It's the same slate S that I reserved over a week ago that still had my name on it from the previous dealer. Anyway, this new San Diego dealer was true blue, and matched the $199 lease deal with a couple of small exceptions: The payment was $219 after tax (about $203 before tax), and the term was an extra 3 months (39 total months @ 1,000 miles a month instead of 36). Total out the door was $2500 even, and that was comprised of the $2,000 noted in the ad plus DMV fees and all taxes (however, to cover the huge taxes on the rebate, he took a greater cap reduction). Of course, the whole $2500 is coming back to me from the State.

The car was not prepped or charged yet, but I saw it, and it looked great. It will be here in a couple hours so I will take some pics then. The electrician was out this morning to install my 220 outlet, and the cable will get sent off for upgrade shortly.

Pics to follow. Best regards, Bobsexistentleaf

Hi all: The reason I don't want to say which dealer is that I don't know what really went wrong, if it was the salesman, the manager, or just a crummy system. Prior to this, I gave the Salesman high marks for his knowledge and customer service. This was not my actual reserved vehicle. It was the first S model received, and happened to be my color. So, the salesman called to offer it to me first. I think he was trying to do good.

I'm not too worried about getting the money back. I alway use American Express, and they do not hesitate to protect their members, and yanking the money back from unscrupulous venders.

Thx, Bobsnonexistentleaf!
it was the dealership. i worked at a few of them and it was not uncommon to do that for a favored customer or more likely, one who was willing to go full price.

if they looked at you as a motivated person, i would not put it past them to put you off a few weeks to get a fence sitter.

at least they didnt lie to you and say the car was scratched in transit and had to spend a few extra days in the paint shop (not a made up line...)
Just saw a new 2013 Leaf Slate SL at Tustin Nissan in California.. QC port but no cameras (rear or otherwise). They haven't unpacked it yet.. didn't see any more other than a used 2011.
