I live in Phoenix. So we do not use heat. We are a 2 person family, and already have a 2015 Yukon (business car), 2016 Tacoma, and a 99 Corvette that has only been driven 300 miles in the last 3 years.

The leaf would be used by spouse to commute to work, 15 miles each way, run errands locally, and haul dogs to dog park. So the range is not going to be an issue.

The first car I posted about I really liked, and was a great price. It was a 13 w 12k miles for $7,000.00. It still had 12 bars. It did not have fog lights or LED though, so does this mean it did not have Cadmo charging ability? or do all 13 SV have that capability?

My situation is similar to yours. We don't use the leaf for a fixed commute (don't really have one) - but for all of our around town and shuttling kids driving which is 80-90% of our driving. We still have ICE vehicles for long trips and heading up to the ski areas. In these circumstances the Leaf is a great addition. We barely touch our ICE cars now except when needed.

Under these circumstances, as opposed to a set commute of 30+ miles each way, range and battery degradation anxiety, while hard to avoid, really comes down to just plugging in more frequently between trips as the years go by. Not a big deal.

I don't know if the air conditioning is different going into the '13 and newer models, but that's a very important component for you and may be a determining factor like the source of winter heat was for me.

I think your on the right path - a very inexpensive used vehicle that will step in and service a great deal of your driving needs and help keep your air cleaner in the winters.

I grabbed the LeafSpy set up as I was looking for used vehicles and it was helpful. Not hard to figure out. Good luck!

As long as you realize that this will be a "throw away" car in a few years in Phoenix. You should expect the battery to be at about 1/2 in a couple of years. It will still work just fine for short trips, but the economics of paying $6000 for a new battery in 5 years (when the value will probably be $2000) just won't make sense. If you can, get it as cheap as possible, then drive it as many miles as possible as quickly as possible. At least you'll get more miles per $ then I will.

If I decide to go as cheap as possible, and go with a 2012 that has had the battery replaced 4k miles ago, is the new battery going to be the same as the one they replaced? or will it be one of the new chemistry batteries that started showing up in the late 2013 models?

Beginning in 2013, the 6.6kw charger is standard on the SV and SL. It comes with the Charge Package upgrade on the S.

+1
Also note you need the "charge" package(actually I believe the only package available for a "S" model) to get the backup camera. By '14 the backup camera was standard on all Leafs(but of course a smaller screen on the S models). Also any S model with the charge package will also have a QC port, not so for the SV models where the QC port was a package and 6.6kw charger is standard.
Fog lights and LED headlights were not a option for the S models(at least through '14 not sure about after that).

This car is advertised as an S. But obviously it is not.

I has fogs (does this mean it has LEDs?). Looks like it has 360 Camera. Does it have quick charge?

That ad looks like some I see around here, a combination of someone copy/pasting various things resulting in lots of garbage.
It says it has a 4.3" screen, that HAS to be a S model but then it says it has NAV, S-models DON'T have NAV, not an option. AFAIK fog lights and CC are also not available on a S-model Leaf.
If I had to venture a guess I'd say it was a SV but then the SV has a much larger screen and something like the screen is not a option....I'd call or drive to take a look at it, that listing just doesn't make sense :? Oh it mentions "partially recycled cloth interior" again that would be a SV model.

probably a stock photo. this a very common practice especially for new cars

Every car I have been interested in has sold before I get there.

This seems like a good price for this car. It has the QC that I would really like. It is a late 2013 production, and was not sold until half way through 14. So, It is still under factory warranty.

It has lost one bar, but still has 2.5 years left on the 5/60 battery warranty.

Opinions?

The SV for $8373 appears to have the Premium Package and possibly the Charge Package, if those are the actual photos of that car.
You talking about http://www.billluke.com/used/Nissan/2013-Nissan-Leaf-Phoenix-97af1b7c0a0e0ae8294096d136bf29b7.htm?

No, it doesn't have the "charge package". On '13 SV, the packages choices were premium and quick charge + LED headlights. I had leased one with both. I own one w/premium only now.

If those are the pics, that has premium only due to the rear camera and camera under the Nissan hamburger logo in the front. It does NOT have quick charge (CHAdeMO inlet) + LED headlight package because it doesn't have the fog lights that come with that.

My '13 SV w/premium only has no fog lights (only dummy covers) unlike my '13 SV with both packages.

You can see the packages at the bottom of http://nissannews.com/en-US/nissan/usa/presskits/us-2013-nissan-leaf-press-kit under Specs.

Every single one I have looked at has sold super fast. Bill Luke had 11 a week ago, and now only has 3.

I have also been talking to someone at this dealership, which I like much better, but their prices a just more than I am looking to spend. But, their cars also seem to be equipped better, and in better condition.

They just got in a bunch of Leafs this week. Now have 13 in stock. They also sell pretty fast here as well.

Anyone bought from Lithia? In Medford they have 40 used leafs starting at $5999 And in Eugene they have 30 more.
