Orange County College - OCC Green Day event on 15 April 2015

They are putting on the OCC Green Day on Wed April 15th from 9 AM to 1 PM.
They would like one LEAF to drive onto their lawn for display, and they are
also willing to display a Rav4EV, Coda, and Tesla (and other?) if available.

Need to arrive around 8:30 to set up, and they will provide us with a
free table (and water and chairs, I think) to promote our group, or do show-and-tell.
We could show EVSEs, various adapters, and the Tesla Chademo Adapter.

The area is in the sun, no shade, but we could bring a canopy and
they have some students that would help us set up.

Gary, if you need a canopy for the OCC Green Day event, I can drop my EZ-UP (the one used at the Huntington Beach event last year) off at the venue at 8:30, and probably stay an hour or so. I plan to be at Kathleen's Sierra Club event tomorrow around 9am, having rescheduled the South Bay garden tour to the later time slot. So I hope to see you and any others going up there tomorrow morning. The April 11 breakfast I will unfortunately have to miss, due a much anticipated field trip sponsored by the Irvine Ranch Conservancy :D / :(

Dori,
Yes, the canopy would be great, since the sun cooks me quickly.
See you on the 15th of April at OCC.

We have a LEAF and a Tesla to display at the OCC Green Day event.
Any other EV types want to show off a bit?

Yes, it is a Wednesday, 9 AM to 1 PM, to display, try to arive at
about 8:30 to get set up before the crowds arrive.

CU all on Saturday 11 April for our next Gathering.

For those interested, without a real life, or just wanting a mid-day dinner
at low cost with no clean-up, you might consider "Dining with the Masses".

I am planning to arrive at the Hometown Buffet in Santa Ana on 17th Street
at about 10:40 AM on Easter Sunday (tomorrow) for a late breakfast and
early dinner. However, it could be quite crowded at that time.

With several friends, I plan to get in before the 11:00 AM change in
price from breakfast to dinner (no lunch prices on Easter Sunday) to save
approximately $5 per person (changes from about $8.99 to $13.99 plus drinks
and tax, as I dimly recall).

The Easter Sunday "dinner" menu includes hand-carved beaf, ham, and turkey,
along with other goodies.

In any case, wherever you are, I wish you are surrounded by
lots of love and goodness. Sincerely, Gary

The Open Yard Event at Kat's house was very nice, not huge crowds,
but some very nice folks to visit with. I would go again, just for the
great company.

A 50 gallon plastic rain barrel at each downspout, a raised urban vegetable
garden, lots of "native", durable shrubberies, two EVs (LEAF and Tesla S) and
a hybrid (Prius) on display, a hardscaped front yard surrounded by plantings
that should be much more impressive in a couple of years, and Sierra Club info.

Thanks Kat, I had a great time, but had to zoom away to get to the Nethercutt
Collection tour at 1:30. The Tesla's Nav system, trying to save time by avoiding
the traffic on 10 and 405 north to I-5, routed us directly north across 10 and through
the heart of Koreatown, via two lane streets and infinite signal lights. We decided
to play along and take its "scenic tour", and finally made it to the Nethercutt Museum
in time to park, get into the free Museum, meet T&C, and join the crowd to cross the street
to the fabulous Nethercutt Collection tour, also free, but requires reservations.

I got home late, tired, but quite glad that I made the adventure.
Thanks a bunch K&C, for all your kind efforts.

For those of you in the San Joaquin Valley, we will be having a new group meeting in Bakersfield on Thursday April 30th in the evening. Scott DuPont, the author of "What is an Electric Car" will give a presentation and a preview of his movie. :D

Everyone is invited and hopefully we can form a vibrant group that will continue with Saturday morning meetings in the future. For further information, go to:

With 3 Rav4EVs, two Teslas, and a Coda, this might have been our
first no-LEAF Gathering, although two ride-along LEAF owners
and several LEAF ex-owners amply represented the LEAFs.

With the smaller group of 8 organic creatures attending, we had
a great time, with two first-time organics.

Boomer should be driving a Tesla loaner all day today, perhaps
even the very new S70D model.

Wednesday at OCC campus, near the OC fairgrounds, we will be
displaying a Tesla and at least one LEAF, from 9 to 1, with free
parking in lots B and C until 2 pm for visitors of this Green Week event.

Dori, call me.

Orange Coast College (OCC) has its 2015 Green Week/Day Event tomorrow
(Wednesday, 15 April) from 9 to 1, with free parking in B and C lots until 2 PM.
OCC is near the Orange County Fairground.

We should have a table and 4 chairs on the lawn, with Dori bringing a canopy
to shade our chairs. We will display my Tesla and Stephen's white 2011 LEAF.
If Phil wants to bring his black 2013 LEAF, he is welcome, since our LEAFs will
be the only LEAFs there. If you want to display your EV, PM me ASAP.
No actual selling allowed on campus, but we can display and refer to other
information sources, and hand out reasonable informative literature.

To drive along paths to the grassy Event area, please arrive before 8:30 AM,
and allow for possibly very slow traffic on the 405 freeway at that time of day.
I can email a campus map with the Event area indicated if you PM me
including your email address, asking for OCC Map (which also shows the
parking areas for visitors).

We will look forward to hearing about your QC Headquarters adventure.
I wish you safe travel, and gentle return to ground.

We will have a 2011 LEAF, a 2013 LEAF, and a Tesla S85 with the Autopilot
hardware, along with their owners at the OCC Green Earth Event tomorrow.

Thanks to Cathy and Stephanie at OCC, and our own Phil, Dorie, and Stephen,
we had a very pleasant time talking to students (and others) of all ages, and
showing off our cars and associated "goodies". Even the Tesla Motors guys
came over to see what we had to show.

Thanks all, for helping to put on a "good show".
Sincerely, Gary

May 2015 Gathering dates:

------ 57th month Gatherings ------
Gathering #57a: 9 May 2015 at the HTB in Cerritos for breakfast.
Gathering #57b: 23 May 2015 at the HTB on 17th St in Santa Ana.

The OC Tesla Group has a trip to the Reagan Library in Simi Valley
scheduled for a week from today, Sunday the 26th of April, see:
http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/group.php?discussionid=9358&do=discuss" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I hope to go, leaving Laguna Hills at about 7:30 to arrive at the Reagan Library
staff parking lot before 10 AM, for a tour that starts promptly at 10:30 AM.

Reservations for this tour group are required by Wednesday, the 22nd of April,
via a link on the page referenced above, to a Google spreadsheet.
Cost, prepaid to the organizer via PayPal by the 23rd, is about $16 to $20.

See you in Santa Ana, on Saturday morning, the 25th of April, at the
Hometown Buffet 2 blocks East of I-5 on 17th Street. Opens at 8 AM,
and I should be there by about 8:02:30 (grin).

We were there yesterday to see the Petersen cars that are on display... Note that if you have a military ID, you get in for free. There is also a senior discount. We go often enough for their various events, that a yearly membership provided the best ROI.

Next Gathering this coming Saturday in Santa Ana.
Expect a variety of different EVs in the parking lot,
at least 2 Tesla S, etc. I should be there, bringing 2 other
EVers, at just about 8:00 AM.
