a few rainy weeks and there was water in it after all. Not as much, but it still does get in. Also standing water around the outside

It's flexible enough to squeeze through the opening and I held it in place with some silicone glue. It fits totally over the strut - the pic shows it in my 2017S after 15 months - the bolt is like new!! For max protection you could squeeze another through the hole and place it over the first.

It's called CorrosionX-Heavy-Duty, it's a corrosion inhibitor, a dripless aerosol, dries to a thin film. Maybe the engineers at NISSAN could use a little on the assembly line and it does not interfere with future maintenance. If you are worried about over spray just make a little tin foil collar around the top strut assembly and leave a hole big enough to cover the desired area. Great stuff, might find other uses around the house were you need a corrosion inhibitor, this is NOT an oil.

I replaced the struts and shocks on my 2011 SV recently. The struts' top nut & shaft were so corroded there was no way the nut was coming off. I suppose I could have just cut off the nut with an angle grinder. The struts were gonna be thrown away anyway. But, I don't have an angle grinder, so I went the yuppie route and returned the new struts I just bought and bought struts with the springs already installed.[...]
My bigger question is: What should I do with this nut and strut shaft that are already so corroded. I would like the car to last another 5 years and considering how wet Hawaii is (even if the mounts are covered) I think this will corrode beyond the point of being serviceable or it might completely break through, as I have heard of. Is there anything short of a full strut replacement that anyone would recommend?
After reading about this issue several years ago, I checked my 2019 Leaf S, and sure enough no covers although no water or visible rust (drought in S. California!). To be safe, I sprayed the nuts with WD-40 Specialist Silicone, and got covers from 2 old yogurt containers and smeared silicone adhesive thickly on the inside where they come in contact with the top of the wells. It seems like this should be a DO THIS FIRST thing when you get a LEAF. Just upgraded my 2016 SV for a 2021 SL+. I have already seen water on these nuts on my '21. Which is nuts. LOL Bought these to cover them. $13 and 10 days later I got them from Latvia. They fit fairly snug though I may add some tape or glue to make sure they don't fall off. I may use a heat gun and tuck the sides in too.
