I'm debating this package and need to know a small wrinkle. I know that people without this package don't get auto on/off headlights, but my question is do the headlights, if turned on manually, shut off after a short while when the car is powered down, or do they simply keep on and run the battery down?

Note to left coasters who will tell me this is immaterial and the QC is the real must: There is not a single QC within driving range of my house. It's an expensive boondoggle to me. But I've missed turning lights on/off enough times to know than in a manual headlight car it's better for me just to turn them on and forget them as long as they power down with the car

Thanks!

I have a 2014 SV with auto headlights. I don't use the setting that much because I want the lights on when I want them on, not when the car thinks it's dark enough. Plus, if left in the standard on position, they turn off after 45-60 seconds after powering off the car. The car beeps at you if done this way, but they do auto shut off if the switch is left in the standard "on" position. Then they come back on, the next AM when powering on the car. simple. no need for the "auto" mode in which the car turns on the lights in the garage ('cause it's dark), then turns them off immediatley when out in the daylight. sometimes "auto" doesn't equate to useable or wanted.

Get the quickcharge. end o discussion.

PS Auto doorlocks...now that seems to work as I like. drive past 15MPH and the doors lock. okay, i can deal with that.

Thanks. Those with the light package work then as I would hope (frankly all cars should do this). The owners manual says the Leaf does but it's in the section that talks about the auto lights so want to make sure it applies to non-auto too.

Would still like to confirm that those who lack this package have headlights that work the same way - turn off after the car is powered down even whern lights are in the "on" position.

Oh and the QC itself is utterly worthless to me. Might as well have a faster than light travel navigation package for the same likelihood I'll need that as ever see a QC in the Leaf. Here in Teapartyland the chances of anything that might slightly reduce fossil fuel usage happening is not just unlikely, it's unamerican and bordeline illegal. Were the lights separate from it I'd take the lights and no QC but not an option alas.

Oh and ironically I just turned off the auto door locks. Passengers kept trying to get out when I stopped but before I shut down the car and found them annoying. Turning off them and the bloody silly start up jingle are things I can't believe I waited 2.5 years to get to.

I have a 2015 S model, and the lights do turn off after 45 secs if you forget to turn them off - and ignore the warning.

Your profile doesn't indicate where you live in "Teapartyland", but I live in Texas and am surrounded by QC stations, so you might want to look around. If you don't have any right now, it doesn't mean you won't ever. I chose not to add the QC and faster J1772 option because I have a short commute and don't plan to take trips in the Leaf, not because they aren't available to me. The ones near me are also included in the "No Charge to Charge" promotion.

I do like that features are user adjustable! I just found out how to change/add the dorky sound effect of your choice to map address book locations. Now when i get close to home, a kitty meows...just as it is when i get in the house front door! Also, when adjusting all the myriad of volume settings...my wife will continuously press the up or down arrows to hear the louder, louder, louder or soft, soft, softer voice. It cracks her up to no end! has become a little song and dance when she is in the car...pun intended.

hopefully S owners will "chime" in with their light switch operation. ok dorkiness is overdone.

oh, and sorry about the QC thing. yeah, change is very hard for some areas of the world. Soon , though, with all this momentum, EV charging will come to be the defacto way of life. And we are all just starting the trend.

Enjoy!

Thanks all - 'twas as I hoped.

And sorry I guess I just exhibited my own provincialism in assuming that the name of the mighty Evansville metropolis (125k on a good day) would be enough to identify me as being in the KY exclave of SW Indiana. My office window looks out over the Mason-Dixon line.

Texas certainly has its own brand of conservatism but yours is at least tempered by having large reasonably cosmopolitan cities too which may forge their own path. Other than Indy at the other end of the state (which may have QCs or may not, but is too far away to matter), we lack those. I'm about three hours and twice max Leaf range from anything that might qualify as one. Evansville (which is not overall a terrible place to live I should concede; its advantages however do not extend to environmental consciousness) actually IS the big city for more than Leaf-range in any direction.

I have a 2013 SV without charge package and LEDs, but the headlights *do* have an "auto" position. I can't tell you if they go off automatically in the normal position, because I've never left them on. I think it actually sounds a buzzer if you do that.

Now that's interesting and unexpected - auto lights are listed as part of the package. I shall have to check it out in person when I haul my ass to St. Louis next (nearest place with much inventory). I wonder if your P01 includes them too.

I think that what has you confused is the auto lights are standard on the SV but come as part of the Charge Package on the S...?

I'm just going by the nissanusa.com site that lists it as part of the LED/QC package for the SV. Now true that only implies rather than states that you don't get it standard, but it's strange to list it as part of a package when you get it anyway.

I have a 2013 S w standard headlights, not LED headlights. The headlights turn off in 45 sec after I turn the car off, no matter what the headlight switch position is set. I think the term "Auto headlights" refers to the headlights turn on when automatically when it gets dark, NOT Auto off when the car is turned off.

Well I still don't know all the ways SVs can get auto lights but at least I know now any model will shut off if powered down. Bit moot to be honest now as I ended up buying one with the LED/QC package anyway. I'll still likely never use the QC unless I move by any wild chance but hey the deal was the right one. Thanks again all for the input.

Just a quick cautionary tale. No QCs in the entire state of NC when I bought 3/13. Now there are several - 6 - in driving range. I would never compare my area to Evansville but you never know. An ISIS attack on our soil might tip even the deep south. Any escalation of war in the area (air strikes in Iran) could cause another gas spike and a real fast switch to EVs even in the heartland.

I have the S model and the other night I was aiming the headlights with the car "off" and they stayed on longer than 45 seconds, at least 3 minutes and didn't auto shut off. But that was turning them on from the "off" state rather than having them on and shutting the car off, I would go check but as usual my wife took the car :)

If you're buying it, get the quick charge. If you are leasing and pretty sure that you'll turn it in at the end it's not as clear cut.

If you are buying it you are probably in it for longer than 3 years, in that case if they build quick chargers around you and if your battery capacity goes down you may need to use them. Not having a quick charge might make it difficult to sell the car on the used market. It's a lot of "if's" but if they build them around your area and if you sell the car privately and not a trade in and if people are more likely to buy BEV's because of quick chargers then they may not touch a car without one. This probably won't get you your money back, but it may get some of it, and it may make it easier/quicker to sell.

My previous family vehicle was an acura MDX, it was nice, but I was also looking at the Toureg, X5 and Cayenne (I drove it very little as I had an insight so fuel economy wasn't important). When I got the leaf and had to sell it I was really happy I had the MDX because it sold quick to the second person who looked at it for $200 less than I had bought it for. Even though it's your car and you should buy what you want when it comes to sell it you are at the mercy of what other people want.

As for the headlights, the LEDs (my cousin has them) are much nicer and better for night time driving than the regular ones that I have. The auto on/off isn't the only advantage.
