Can't wait for the details!

If Nissan does build it, it puts in a 5-10 kW generator of any configuration, this could be a very good true range extended (BEVx) SUV.

The “range–extended” EV (BEVx) considered

...Powering the front wheels is the electric propulsion system currently featured in the battery-electric Nissan LEAF. In each back wheel, providing all-wheel power as needed, is an in-wheel electric motor, based on the working prototypes featured in three successive PIVO concepts. (Earlier post.)

As no drive shafts are required to power the rear wheels, there is no hump in the cabin floor or on the underbody. This allows for the flat cabin deck and the underside bodypan.

Under the hood is ample space for Nissan’s proprietary hydrogen fuel cell stack: a flat, highly compact unit that features power density of 2.5 kW/L. The latest in a series of Nissan fuel cells since 1996, the stack costs one-sixth of its 2005 progenitor as the need for expensive precious metals has been cut to one-quarter of the previous level...

Nissan needs a new design team, even their concept cars are ugly. They need to ditch the Murano wheel wells completely.

I think they are trying to get the Juke language straight. It's a big step in the right direction... but has a way to go.

And hey Nissan, about all that hydrogen infrastructure..... ???

It's not really much different than the EV charging infrastructure. You just get a home station, like Honda's: http://automobiles.honda.com/fcx-clarity/home-energy-station.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Ya, but 19 months in and were still L1. ;) Not sure if we're "cheap" or "frugal"?!? But since when did fuel cells get cheaper than large batteries??? If they now are AND I can be in charge of my own hydrogen production, it's a technology I can support.

I take it as an indictment that the battery-only technology dog don't hunt, and we're looking more PHEV-ish things to come.

Funny you should say that...Nissan LEAF isn't even listed for the upcoming Alt Car Expo. Instead they're going to be showing a 7-year old fuel-cell vehicle. A real "WTF?" moment when I saw that!
