i replaced both high beams and fog lamps with hids...very effective even though both hids arent optimized for existing reflectors...as far as annoying glare..I donot use any highbeams to shine in opposing traffic...or only to remind anothervdriver he s running with HIS high beams on...I am running hid 55 watt for high beams and the other guy gets the message very quickly...the hid fog lamps dont seem to be an issue since their aimimg is so low.amber lcd turn signal bulbs do require a 100ohm 25 watt resistor wired parallel both r and left side or turnsignals hyperflash...kpc

The issue I found with the HID fog mod is the lack of focus; they just look cool from the outside but do not offer real light output onto the road. I know this is due to the reflector and I am thinking I may need to fit a complete HID fog housing.

Bottom line if I were to revisit this mod I would look for something else for the fogs other than the HID's I see a few have opted for an LED option how are they working out.

The HID High Beams work well after they have warmed up as HID need a few seconds to reach their full power.

I have ordered the CREE focused beam LED for the fog lights. Haven't received them yet, but the CREE is great for the back-up lights. Brighter than the OEM ones.

As I posted back a few days, I am using these 68-LED H11 lamps in plce of my foglights:

H11_68.jpg

But, I don't really have any use for foglights here in South Florida, as I rarely, if ever, see fog. So, although these aren't quite as bright as the original lamps, they are a nice 6000* white light, so they serve my purpose. I accidently bought an extra set, if you would like to try them.

These would be as bright as stock for fog lights

and these are even brighter:

Thanks KeyDriver if you can bring them to the next meet (I was going to hit the Friday night car show again in a few weeks as it worked out well the first time round)

Did the same upgrade as OrientExpress I just changed one side to see the difference

Can you tell which one if the HID?

Could you post the URL and a part number/description for the HIDs?

Thanks

Forgive my ignorance, but how does one go about replacing the fog light bulbs? Do I need to remove the headlights to get to them?

You have to remove the front under-tray and go in from the bottom.

You can get at the bulbs by just removing the corner fasteners from the belly pan and reaching in. You don't have to completely remove the pan.

Thanks for all the LED info OrientExpress!

I replaced the three cabin lights (two map + dome) with SuperBrightLEDs.com Universal PCB LED boards. They work great, are easy to install, and provide a lot more light than stock. The part numbers are UPCB-WWHP30 (3100K warm white) or UPCB-CWHP30 (6300K cool white). You'll also need two UPCB-T10 UPCB Mating Miniature Wedge Base (one for each map light) and one UPCB-FES UPCB Mating Festoon Base for the dome light.

After installing the dome light LED, I put some electrical tape over the dome light electric contacts to prevent contact with the back of the LED circuit board.

I'll also be ordering a UPCB for the trunk light (festoon base).

You can see the individual LED's thru the plastic diffusers (but not in the picture), that may not appeal to some.

OK, how do you replace the side turn signal lights? It looks like you just pop out the fixture from the exterior but mine does not want to play.

Yes, you just put pressure from one side and then pop it out. Btw, I haven't found bright enough LEDs that would fit in that place.

What are you using for the front and rear turn signals?

These work well for side repeaters:

I've replaced all bulbs to LEDs with the exception of turn signals. I don't see enough benefit to justify the current cost on the brightest bulbs.

I have these, but they are not as bright regular bulb, I actually put them in license plate. Also they are overpriced from this link. You can get the same ones for <$3

The ones you reference are white, not amber. white does not work well with the clear lenses. The amber ones I refer to are bright and work well.

Here are most of the bulbs for T10/194/W5W that I have and tried out:

Very bright I've been using these in my Leaf for a year as map lights and in another car for over 2 years as parking lights and they haven't burned out yet. Highly Recommended!

For now use them as license plate. They are ok, but not really bright
http://www.ebay.com/itm/251034797551?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

These seem to be as bright as regular W5W, but the bulb is larger then above, doesn't fit in license plate or side turn signal, I ended up putting them inside the side parking light behind yellow reflector:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/t10-4w-160lm-5x5050-smd-led-car-white-light-bulbs-pair-71627" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Got these based on someone recommendation on this thread, but they turned out to be overpriced and not brighter then cheaper ones of the same bulb on ebay. Also the color doesn't match the low beam. I am using them as front parking lights because that's the only place they could fit in, but will be replacing them with the ones I recommend above

Recently bought these to try out, but haven't received them. They were cheap, might work good for license plate as well:

Also bought H11 Fog 5w cree. There is also 7w cree variant that might be better. Also recommend this bulb.
