I don't know if anyone mentioned it on this board yet, but it seems that the NMAC discount for buying (not leasing) a Leaf has been bumped from its long-running $3,500 to $5,000.

Go to car.com, search on Leafs, and then in the entry for one of the cars click on the "Special offers" links and you should see "$5,000 Financing Bonus Cash Expires 7/31/15".

Can you elaborate on where you are seeing this? Do you means carS.com? Do you select the 2015 model year?

Sorry about the car/carS typo. Yes, it was cars.com.

I just looked for in-stock Leafs, and then clicked on the "Special offers" link for one of the cars. (For some reason not all the cars in the list have the "Special offers" link.) I verified this just now, and it still says $5k until 7/31, and it was a 2015 model.

I was looking for lease deals and found a dealer (Sunnyvale Nissan in SF Bay area) is advertising on their webpage

MSRP $32,000
- Dealer Discount $5,000
- Factory Rebate $5,000
Net Cost $22,000 for a brand new 2015 Leaf S.

http://www.nissansunnyvale.com/new/Nissan/2015-Nissan-LEAF-Bay-Area-060a3fe90a0a00652d36b4d55a058a36.htm

Counting the $7500 federal tax credit and $2500 CA rebate, that will bring the cost to $12,000 + $2300 tax (probably on the $32k-$5k=$27k selling price) + $300 registration (estimated).

Is it a good deal? Did I miss something? I thought $12k + tax isn't a lot to buy a good car these days.
How long does the Leaf have to run (reasonably well) to justify this purchase?

Yes that is a very good deal, How would you feel if Nissan a month later announced a longer range Leaf available soon, without the discounts?

I asked myself the same question recently, so I made this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1r9Z9DtdgnKqOh2Xq2FvyPCyK-rD3wtTSM3O9lbDlKgM/edit#gid=0

Feel free to play around with it. I'm going to wait for MY2016, which will likely be announced in the next couple of weeks.

Right now, the big unknown re:2016 Leaf is the pricing. I think it's safe to assume, based on the online reports we've seen, that the SV and SL trim levels will get a 25% bigger battery pack. But what will Nissan do about price? I think that if they create a 25% difference in the range, then they also have to increase the price spread between the S and the other levels. I don't see them increasing the price of the SV and SL, which means they'll cut the price of the S. They've been selling Leafs with a $3,500 discount for about 6 months, and now that's been bumped to $5,000. As a wild guess, I'd expect the S to get a price cut of somewhere between those two numbers.

I'm expecting the S to get a range increase also. From 21 kWh usable to 24kWh. Range will be >100 miles EPA. Probably the same battery as the SV and SL but more limited on usable capacity.

I'd love to see the S get a boost, but your comment is the first I've seen anyone mention it. Is this based on anything aside from it obviously being a good idea for Nissan, their customers, and the environment?

Looks like $5,000 discount only on the SL, (~$28k net) the max discount on the S's ~$3,500 (~$13,500 net)

http://www.nissansunnyvale.com/new-inventory/index.htm?model=LEAF&&&&year=2015&

Still great deals on either, IMO.

The rumor has been 24 kWh and 30 kWh battery pack capacities. It is unlikely that one is listed as usable battery pack and the other is total battery pack capacity. The math works if 30 kWh is usable battery pack for 125 mile EPA range. Then the 24 kWh usable should be about 100 miles EPA range.

More about the math: If assume current battery has usable 21 kWh capacity then 21 / 84 range = x / 125 range. x = 31 kWh. Since rumor says 30 kWh then new 2016 car will need to have efficiency improvements also.

Hi, Just wondering if this is a great deal on Boardwalk Nissan's webpage:

$109/mo lease for a 2015 Leaf S w/Charge Package (i.e 6kW & QC port)
http://www.boardwalknissan.com/specials/new.htm

Did this dealer already took into account the max discount (- $3500) that you commented above for a Leaf S ?

Also, I am curious if they are still giving out the free L2 charger and the 2-yr free charging card (no charge to charge) ?

Thanks for any info.

Congrats on the new Leaf and a great deal. I suspect you'll love it, hopefully as much as my wife and I love ours.

A quick heads up based on our experience, though: Even after a couple of years of ownership you'll still break out into a Joker-esque laughing fit, ala Nicholson in the 1989 Batman film, when you drive past a gas station. It's the price we pay for drivin' on electrons.

I just leased a Leaf S + QC today, 5k drive off, 76+tax NonVPP.

The finance guy told me that the maintenance is required every 6 months, is that true?? I bought the pre-paid maintenance plan for $795, is this worth it? should I cancel it?? TIA!!!

Cancel. The only maintenance I've performed in 2 1/2 years is tire rotation.

thanks!! so the finance guy lied that every 6 months maintenance is required.
