The JP MAY-11 number was 472 units on a magazine from the JADA documents.

I also confirmed the number on the magazine.

Thx. Updated.

I thought the Volt sales may go down, given the plant shutdown. Apparently they are pacing the delivery to smooth over this shutdown.

Look at the other hybrids that the LEAF outsold in June:

The Honda Insight edged out the Honda CR-Z with 1,021 units sold versus 966, compared to 1,435 and 1,557 units sold in May, respectively. Meanwhile, sales of the Honda Civic Hybrid rang in at a relatively low 418.

wow what's going on?
nissan leaf sales are close to half of prius..
electric car sells many more than many hybrid models..
despite limited supply. surprising.

quick...someone needs to put a stop to this! Maybe SAE can?

Toyota Prius sales have plummetted because of supply issues post tsunami - from 14,000 to 4,000.

Leaf sales won't be able to touch Prius until the Smyrna plant comes on board - purely from the supply side. The demand side would depend a lot of external factors.

Until things return to normal in Japan, the numbers are basically meaningless as there simply isn't much to sell currently. Nissan was lucky to be less affected with the Leaf than most other manufacturers with their hybrids...

Yeah - every single hybrid on the market but the Prius!

One also has to figure that there's a lot of pent-up demand for the LEAF. After all - with dealers marking up orphans up to $42k there's definitely some demand for the car. Not to mention that the LEAF (or Volt) still isn't selling in all states yet.

I figure by the end of this year we should have a better feel for sales - but it will take the Smyma plant coming online to satiate demand in the US.

According to Chevy CS posting in gm-volt, 60,000 MY2012 Volts will be made. August Volt sales will be interesting to watch.

IMO - there's no way they're going to hit those numbers unless they seriously reduce the starting price...

The JP JUN-11 number was 407 units reported by following site from the JADA documents.

Thx.

What is the order situation in Japan ? Is there still a waiting queue or can people go to aNissan dealer and buy the car off the lot ?

So Nissan has now sold over 3X as many LEAFs as GM has Volts. Nice! IMHO this will go to 4X, 5X, etc, into 2012.

General Motors will only report about 100 Chevrolet Volt sales when July’s U.S. auto sales come out Tuesday, but the extended-range electric car is “virtually sold out” of the outgoing 2011 model year, spokeswoman Michelle Bunker said today.

Not likely. GM had shut down production temporarily so that they could ramp it up. They will still be selling all they can make, just like the LEAF.

Is that why the VoltAge Facebook page posted some winey stuff about June/July sales numbers. I figured July must have been really bad for the Volt if they are already in damage control mode.

From their VoltAge site:
* There are only about 100 2011 Volts left in stock - or 1 per every 6 dealers. If you’re interested in purchasing a 2011 model year Volt, give us a call at 1-877-486-5846 or check with your local participating Volt dealer.

????

Shouldn't these 100 Volts and thousands more be pre-sold??? Looks like they need to get their story straight.... OR is the story being made that we only had 100 Volts in July so that's what we sold?!?
