I just completed an 85 mile round-trip from Long Island (NY) to Stamford, CT, and it got me thinking about how my Leaf has already seen NY, NJ and CT, but will probably never get the chance to see any other states.

For those of you who had their cars shipped cross country, I guess the answer will be quite a high number....

Should we award bonus points for those who have taken the Leaf into Canada or Mexico?

Never is an absolute. When you get your quick charge stations you'll be able to go to other states.

Sure, Tony, but other than dipping your toe in Mexico, how long is it going to take you to get out of your first state?

Assuming currently available public charging stations, I just calculated it would take me a minimum of 17 hours, driving+charging, to get out of California from where I am. Unfortunately I would end up at Tahoe, with no juice and no public charging stations. (That's assuming I can go up 5500+ feet in 48 miles without recharging, then regen enough coming down 1100 feet to go the last 13 miles) Even plugshare has nothing usable -- only a private home 18 miles away over a 1000 foot pass!

I guess I'd have to find a 120v plug in a parking garage and spend a day and a night in a casino.

Our LEAF has been driven in Japan! :D

Since we have owned it, our LEAF has seen two states: Virginia and West Virginia. That's not a huge feat, considering we live about one mile from West Virginia!

In its lifetime, I expect it will also see Maryland without too much difficulty. I've been considering taking it into Washington, DC next week but that will require some careful planning regarding charging infrastructure. Pennsylvania is reachable on a charge, but since I don't kow how I would receive a charge there it may be a little tricky. Perhaps I could visit a Nissan dealer there or borrow a plug from a fellow EV owner.

So, two states today, one more likely and DC and Pennsylvania are real possibilities. I doubt it will ever see any other states besides those mentioned.

June 12 through June 18. But I'm also not in a race. It could be done quicker... a little quicker, anyway. I'll blast through those bite size states up north at about 1 per day.

Texas and...uh...Texas. I think Texas should count as multiple states because its so large! It would take magic to get me out of the state. Plus faries and unicorns.

Living in North Texas, the absolute shortest route from my house to another state would be going North to Oklahoma. It would be an 85 mile trip to the border. I suppose it would, in theory, be possible. Of course there is nowhere near the border to recharge. So I'd be screwed.

For people living in Austin, San Antonio, or Houston... They can pretty much forget it. Texas is bigger than a lot of countries.

Austin here... exactly what I was thinking!! Mine will mostly likely never see any place but Texas!

Yah, same midwest problems, too far between states and chargers. When I get mine it will have traveled from CA to MO to KS but once I take delivery it will only reach Kansas and Missouri.

It's 130 miles (interstate) north to Iowa with no chance to recharge in between. Nebraska (118 miles interstate) is almost doable with a full recharge at the Harley Plant in St. Joseph Mo going up and back.

I can't even figure out a reasonable way to get it to summer camp 120 miles out since there's a substantial uphill section right at the end of the trip.

I leave my state (of mind) When I drive My LEAF to the San Francisco Bay area...

Mine has seen low battery state and very low battery state, but not seen turtle state yet. I've seen 80% state most of the time with occasional 100% state.

Aside from prior-to-destination countries and states, mine has been in Ohio and Michigan. :)

I might take it to Canada, but I have no need to go there right now.

Living in San Jose, CA, my nearest state border is about 240 miles driving to Nevada, which includes a ~6000 ft climb up the Sierras. I don't expect it'll see another state for a while :D

On its own power? Just two: Oregon and Colorado, although it traveled on a trailer through Idaho and Utah.

Well, Hawai'i is a little bitty state* but I doubt that Hawaiian LEAFs will be visiting other states very often...

* In land area, the spread of the Hawaiian archipelago is enormous.

Well, if you were serious about it, You'd definitely want to get an EVSE upgrade. A quick Google search for RV parks show a number of choices. I'm sure you could get some 240v charging at one of them.

Houston? That sounds like a snap. A QC in Baytown and an L2 in Beaumont will get you to Louisiana easily from anywhere in the Houston area. And it's only 60 miles from Beaumont to Lake Charles, so you have no problem recharging once you get there. Three hours driving, maybe six hours charging - compare that with my barely possible, and dead end, 17 hours.

Austin or San Antonio ... yeah, that would take a lot longer, though it's still possible to get to Houston with a stop in College Park. Now from Fort Stockton, on the other hand ...

So far just IL but as we're in the NE corner of the state (Chicago), we could make the WI border fairly easily and perhaps IN if we planned it right so 3 eventually -- we have some with many more miles on the Chicagoland thread than we have so perhaps they've already done it. Going straight west, IA would be a real stretch until they finish QC setup on the tollway Oasis' as well as the time to wait, etc. --- once again, our LEAF would not ever be our big trip car but that's fine for now until the range can get much higher in a next gen battery.
