I love it when a plan comes together:

Yes, we have a blog set up. And twitter (which I have no idea what's going on there). And GPS live tracking.
You should let people know your twitter handle well in advance, so members can start following you. If you tweet a problem, followers in the area could answer very quickly. I won't be much help on the other side of the Mississippi, though.

What things should I record on the trip?

1. Clear pictures of the receptacle at the RV camps and the adaptors needed to use them. Cost, hours and phone numbers too.
2. Are the locations amenable to hosting any lower amp DC charging station? And ways to follow up on that.

Nice A-team reference.

Tony... I am curious. Why would I want to rent a polka dotted dog???? :?

I was getting hungry with the Pat and Oscars ad! I think they are renting the stand for trade shows, and the dog just gets your attention. They had some HUGE pictures of models on the wall that were just amazing at the detail this print media has gotten to.

Low amps? Ask big, negotiate lower!!! Yes, a HUGE part of the tour is spreading the good word about EV Quick Charging. I'm not interested in promoting L2, since anybody / business can go to Lowes / Home Depot and get an L2, and pay a relatively small fee to install, PLUS cheap to operate.

So ... is anyone still interested in a RELAY from Seattle to San Diego to bring Tony's car back while he's on vacation ? We need a lot of MNL's to commit to this adventure. I'll do my part around the Sacramento area, maybe even as far north as Redding ...

Whoever may wish to caravan with me in Orange County on Wed, June 13, can meet me at either the Laguna Beach Chargepoint chargers mid morning or the Chargepoint chargers at the Tesla store in Newport Beach.

Times to be announced. My next stop will be the DC charger in Cypress.

I'm in. Checking with the local LEAF group to see if anyone else is free to join us.

We have a small convoy for the Orange County leg. I'll plan to be in place to ensure that Tony gets a charge station at Laguna Beach and someone has volunteered to do the same at Newport Beach. A couple of folks will join the tour at the Cypress QC and probably escort Tony northward somewhat.

Any other Orange County folks that are free and want to join us on Wednesday, mid-day, please respond here or send me a PM. I'll also PM some of the usual suspects. I'm planning to be at the Laguna Beach charge stations by 0900. The timing for the Newport and Cypress locations will be at Tony's discretion, but I have cell phone numbers of those folks, so we can stay in touch.

I will take it from San Francisco to San Diego if I can drive it a few laps at REFUEL on July 1st

I had previously offered to do Stockton to Merced or thereabouts (I'm in the Bay Area), but the fewer handoffs we have to make the better, so will happily resign my spot to you. Or even drive you up to wherever the handoff is made from the Sacramento area, if you can't get anyone else.

Wow ! With that *major* a commitment (long SFO-SAN stretch) by KeiJidosha, then I ( or palmermd in Stockton ? -- not trying to "bump" you ) would feel comfortable doing a hand-off at the DCQC in San Ramon.

P.S.: And I am assuming from Monterey KeiJidosha will be doing the 101 ...

Would there be any reason why I could not use two NEMA 14-50R outlets (at an RV park) and combine them into one box for 100 amp service ?
>>>>
1. Build a device similar to Easy240 that parallels 2 NEMA 14-50R outlets. Need to do this since often the phases are typically different on adjacent outlets in RV parks which would short the outlets if paralleled which would not make you popular with the host!
>>>>
RV parks with multiple "50 Amp" 240V outlets must be wired for substantial total power capacity. Is it possible that to meet this demand that some of them would be supplied with 3-phase power ? If so, I would be concerned that adjacent 14-50 outlets might be on different phases, but with only 120 deg phase difference between them. Connecting two such outlets in parallel would not work, and connecting them in series would just get you the third phase. If the service was 208V phase-to-phase you could detect this wiring by measuring the voltage.

I have been trying to keep up with this thread, but I have not read it all. I know you are very busy with all the planning, but it would be great if you could also get some publicity along your route. Perhaps print media, local TV news story. Perhaps NPR. Maybe call ahead each night to the towns on the next-day's route.

I sure hope you can take your portable charger, not only because it could make a huge difference in your own travel time, but because it would help demonstrate how important high-power charging is to practical EV road trips. The fact that Tesla is selling a 2nd 10 kW charger for the Model S for only $1.5K suggests that, with mass production, this level of charging should be affordable.
