My turn to report back in. The local dealer has now had the car for two weeks, with no indication when the replacement front carpet might come in. The service manager told me the new blower box they got (the source of the water leak) had to be pulled off the factory floor but the carpet can't be had that way.

At his suggestion I now have a case number and a LEAF specialist looking into this.

And finally after two weeks I have a "complimentary rental" vehicle. The service department had failed to mention this coverage from page 36 of the Warranty Information Booklet, and I just became aware of it this morning (from MNL!) It's Nissan policy to limit the complimentary rental period to five days but this can be appealed to corporate.

More to follow when something happens.

Another update. The LEAF specialist informed me that the dealer's request to expedite the carpet resulted in an ETA of about August 4, so the specialist will see if he can do better than that. The two of them will try to come to an agreement whereby I can keep the complimentary Versa (and keep putting gas into it :( ) until repairs are complete.

Forgot to mention in previous status: the dealer had also asked if I wanted to drive the LEAF around without carpet until the replacement item came in! Yeah, that'd help the new carpet adhere to the floor real well...

My 2013 Nissan Leaf Model S has same problem now. It's about 10 months old. I barely use the AC(try to
save the battery as much as possible). Now the AC does not blow out cold air anymore.
The nearest Nissan dealer only has opening slot for the service appointment
about 2 weeks later. I have to stand with no AC.

Hmm… I thought that stuff came in a can

J.K. Good luck.

This thread seems like just more proof concerning the inferior quality of Smyrna assembled Leaf vehicles. My 2011 Leaf (Japan assembled) just keeps going with no problem whatsoever.

The LEAF-specialist-expidited carpet came in Monday, four days quicker than they had told me. The dealer says the car may be ready by 5PM today.

Last time I checked, the SOC was the same 25% I brought it in with 2.5 weeks ago. This means they missed the opportunity to run the repaired A/C to check for leaks before the new carpet was installed. I'll be pointing that out to the service manager.

I don't intend to accept the car back without it having been charged and the A/C repair tested.

Okay, I got the car back and so far so good. They ran the A/C during charging to check for leaks.

Looks like a few folks in various threads have run into the "damaged blower box" problem. Wonder how widespread it is?

I've been bit in the hind quarters twice by the same AC problem others here are reporting.

Leased a 2013 S in late March '13. Everything ran perfectly and my wife I were thrilled with the car. Late summer '13 the AC forgot how to chill. Took it in, they replaced hoses and fittings (no wait for parts, luckily), and for the rest of the summer it was great.

This year, it was, again, perfect all year until the last two days, when the AC went from performing normally to barely chilling the air to not chilling at all in about 48 hours.

Tomorrow morning I will call the dealer and book a repair appointment, and hope that the dealer (a high-volume auto mall) again has the parts in stock.

As for what's causing these issues, I have to agree with the comment earlier in this topic that it likely wasn't Nissan or their Smyrna plant, but the supplier. I'm sure Nissan doesn't build the AC components; it sounds like one of their suppliers needs to spend a little more time on QA.

Add me to the list. 2013 S , Purchased November 2013... Air just stopped blowing cold today. Not good for a 9 month old car.

after only 6 months the AC in my 2013 Leaf started blowing warm air, I am in California, bought car in March of 2014 and it broke in August, just dropped it off at the Maita Nissan half hour ago, will update you all on how it goes, hope this is under warranty

Ended up being a cracked high pressure hose, they had it in stock and replaced it in a couple hours for free under warranty. (Another few weeks and I would not have known about it for another six month since I would not have used AC in the winter)

Just picked up on this thread. Since I'm in Tucson, I noticed the air wasn't blowing cold last February. Luckily, it was fixed then so I didn't have the air go out in the summer, which can be brutal here. It took three trips to the dealer to get it right, since they replaced the compressor first, but didn't realize the hoses were leaking until after the compressor was replaced. Anyway, I've made it through about 70% of our summer without a problem.

I've started to hear two distinct noises from my A/C system. First, there is a almost inaudible groaning sound which begins when the AC is running. It is a groan which varies in pitch from high baritone to medium bass. I can only hear it when the vehicle is standing and the AC blower is at the lowest setting. The second sound comes when the AC is in the recirculate position and there is a light slapping sound, something like a leaf inside the blower box. Neither are objectionable. Just wondering, but not worried.

This is the variable speed compressor. It is a normal sound.

It may, in fact, be just that, something stuck in the squirrel cage fan. It could also be the motorized air door flapping... Not normal but likely nothing to worry about either.

Thank you!

My A/C just quit blowing cold air when I ran it today 2/12/15. I probably use the A/c about 1-2 times a week just to be sure it's working, even in the winter time. Out here in SF bay area, we have mild winters. Don't really use the A/C that much even during the summer, as my commute is only 25 mins along 280 and 101.

2013 S
Purchased Sept 2013
11,005 miles

Is it still under warranty? No extended warranty was purchased.

Must be the same "leak due to a small crack at the “end form” of the A/C pipe."
that I've been reading about. Service bulletin NTB14-045a

Spoke to the Nissan service rep and made an appointment to bring in the car next week.
It's $150 just to look at the car to determine what's wrong with the A/C system, and if the A/C failure wasn't caused by me, then it will be fixed and the $150 will be waived, since the A/C system is covered for 3 years.

Not a good sign that after only 1.5 years with minimal A/C usage here in the Bay Area, A/C goes out.
sure hope the other systems in the Leaf don't have issues in the future.

just got a used 2012 SL blk, about 7000 miles on it, and guess what, the AC is not working: (

have an apt next week, hopefully it won't take too long to get it fixed...lucky i guess with the heat wave in the bay area this week, or else we probably wouldn't find the problem till summer time.

funny thing is we just had the inspection done there for $140 so we can get the warranty from santa rosa nissan....
