That's CA which we already knew was legal. Try to find something for WA. If I were to guess, I will say it is illegal in WA. He hasn't emailed me back yet. He's a busy man! There were 400 and some legal questions he's answered already. They didn't have a 'search' feature.

RCW 46.61.290
Required position and method of turning at intersections.
(2) Left turns. The driver of a vehicle intending to turn left shall approach the turn in the extreme left-hand lane lawfully available to traffic moving in the direction of travel of the vehicle. Whenever practicable the left turn shall be made to the left of the center of the intersection and so as to leave the intersection or other location in the extreme left-hand lane lawfully available to traffic moving in the same direction as the vehicle on the roadway being entered.

Don't count on a police officer knowing the law, they often don't. ;)

RCW 46.61.055 (applies to the other vehicle)

Traffic control signal legend.
(snipped Green and Yellow) ...

(3) Steady red indication

(a) Vehicle operators facing a steady circular red signal alone shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection control area and shall remain standing until an indication to proceed is shown. However, the vehicle operators facing a steady circular red signal may, after stopping proceed to make a right turn from a one-way or two-way street into a two-way street or into a one-way street carrying traffic in the direction of the right turn; or a left turn from a one-way or two-way street into a one-way street carrying traffic in the direction of the left turn; unless a sign posted by competent authority prohibits such movement. Vehicle operators planning to make such turns shall remain stopped to allow other vehicles lawfully within or approaching the intersection control area to complete their movements. Vehicle operators planning to make such turns shall also remain stopped for pedestrians who are lawfully within the intersection control area as required by RCW 46.61.235(1).

I guess that's why we need so many lawyers to determine who is more right or more wrong.

Sorry, I need to rant a little bit, but this is why I hate sprawl. City streets and intersections should not be so big as to get into semantics about 'far right lane' when traversing a opposing road. Keep streets and intersections small, limit traffic, and a lot of these issues will go away. Also, in small intersections, you cannot get enough speed when traveling thru an intersection to have collision as much or big of a deal.

My 2 cents, as a car-free pedestrian in the East Coast.

And then you get into the whole double left turn lane thing, sometimes with vague lane markings. Best
to just put down the phone, pay attention, and don't expect the other driver to know the rules of the
road.

I watched a police officer behind me violate RCW 46.61.290 on my way home from the barn yesterday.
I didn't signal her to pull over.... ;) (Never argue with an officer, talk to the magistrate.)

I've seen tons of driving (non-emergency) violations by local and state police. Most rarely use their turn signals to change lanes and many don't even signal when they are turning into a business. I've clocked quite a few at nine over the limit. They know the street radar is set to '11 over'. I saw one litter by throwing his cig butt out the window. It seems like they believe they are above the law.

Thanks! I didn't know about those car dvr cams!

This will get you higher quality 1080p, but at a larger price. If you've watched Deadliest Catch, you've seen a bunch of footage from it. I don't know how good the night / low light performnce is.
http://gopro.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have the GoPro, and I don't think it does 2, 5, or 15 minute "loops". I've only used it a couple of time in the LEAF.

There's no night video possible. Plus, it's expensive compared to this.

I ordered one of these eSinoMart 720P units (approx. $70 + $10 shipping from HongKong).

When I am parked doing charging, it might catch somebody unplugging my LEAF.

Maybe this unit can do longer than a 15-minute loop by doing time-lapse, storing maybe 2 frames per second instead of all 30 frames each second?

Also, I will see how much power it uses, both in daytime and night-time modes.

The 15-minute loop is great for driving, and popping in another SD-Card gives an "instant save" of some violator's actions.

In any case, it will be fun to see how well it works, especially in darker situations.

A dash-cam of some sort is on my list. With an eye to getting really bad truck drivers
fired before they kill someone. Seriously.

Thanks for the links. I need to do some research and decide which is best for me.

Keep in mind that not all DVR units offer good IQ. The one I have has a good balance of price and IQ but there are better units. GoPro lacking important features to make it hands-free device such as auto on/off and cycled recording. Btw I did leave DVR on while charging in public place once, but I had to keep the car in accessory mode.

I like this unit as well and looking at samples in YouTube I think it might be worth to try.

Well you can be the guinea pig. I want one of these! But that site seems pretty shady. I didn't get the unsafe site warning (though I didn't go all the way through the checkout). But I did see their "authorize.net" seal doesn't actually work. They are hosting the image locally and does not link to authorize.net. Red flag!

I found he same model the OP had on ebay. But it seems I bough the last one from this seller.

Esino is fine, I ordered from them a few times, takes a few weeks to get it though. Also, there are 4 different versions of this unit and the image quality and features are not the same on all. So make sure you are not getting 047 version. Take a look at this list:

Esino also carries different versions with different prices.

Cheaper model:
http://shop.esino.hk/car-dvr-mini-dv/710-720p-120-degree-wide-angle-digital-vehicle-car-camera-dvr.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The one have:

I bought mine about 6 month ago for $120, so the current price is attractive, but as I mentioned I am not happy with the image quality, so I can't recommend this particular unit.

Here are some samples:

Finally, here is a unit I am looking to buy:

Sample video:

Uhg, yeah the one I got off ebay is the 047 model.
Trying to cancel.

I think the IQ of the video you have is pretty damn good for a $50 camera.
