Nissan recalls more than 1M vehicles for air bags (from @AP) This affects 2013-2014 LEAF's. http://m.apnews.com/ap/db_268743/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=D3Tk5YBG" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The recall includes 989,701 vehicles from 2013 and 2014 in several of Nissan's lines of cars and SUVs, including the latest generation of its Altima sedan and its all electric Leaf.

Nissan documents say the system might not work if there is "high engine vibration at idle when the seat is initially empty and then becomes occupied, or unusual occupant seating postures immediately upon being seated."
That's funny, you wouldn't think that would apply to the LEAF.

Well, the first part sure wouldn't but the second part still could.

I have had this issue several times with my wife. The airbag sensor will sometimes turn off the airbag when she is seated in the passenger side. This is shown in the dash. While she is petite, this has never happened in any other car. It is quite disconcerting, and we will stop and she will have to adjust around or we will power cycle the car until the sensor turns the bag back on.

One question I have about this bug is whether the front panel indicator always shows the state of the airbag...i.e. could the airbag be OFF but the indicator show ON?

The '13 Leaf airbag sensor was already recalled almost a year ago.

I knew about it right after I took delivery of my '13 last March. But I never got a recall notice mailer. Still don't have one for this go around either.
