Just had my 15k service last week and over weekend. noticed charging issues. Left home on Monday with 105% charge get 20 miles down the road and it gives me a 50% left indication. Dealer has had it three days & tech I spoke with didn't seem to understand it ain't suppose to do that. I drive daily to work & usually it drops to 75/80% at that mark. Understand some issues with batteries cropping up. Any one having issues?

I'm guessing you mean miles on the Guess-O-Meter, not % SOC. Because there ain't no gauge for that unless you have one of the aftermarket Gidometer or Leafscan units.

If so, then maybe, since the Guess-O-Meter is based on driving style. If you're been really paddling it, I can see you being down to 50 miles estimated after only 20 miles. I was routinely down to 55-60 miles estimated after 30 miles driven fairly sedately in D and now I'm at 20,000 miles on the clock I routinely arrive at the 30 mile mark with only 50 miles GOM remaining after using ECO the whole way and still driving quite sedately.

They may have changed your firmware, which could have reset your GOM's memory. This would make the LEAF have to relearn your driving behavior. So if you are referring to the GOM, this may be your issue.

That is what they did, they upgraded the Controller, but the tech that did it when I questioned him about the issues he said he hadn't upgraded anything. Then when asking about capacitance readings of were do you see that read out he couldn"t explain the readout on the dashboard about the bargraph on the far right showing that reading, After a week of driving the same route, same speeds it appears to be getting better, but I asked to have the upgrade redone by someone else cause I've got no confidence in the one so called Master Tech, they kept my car two days for the 15k service, at the Duluth Dealer that did the upgrade. My redo was refused. So I have informed them not doing business with them and will use the dealership in Gainsville closer to my home anyway. I ve demaded Nissan Customer have their roving Master Tech meet me at the Gainesville Nissian and reload the upgrade, They'll get back to me.

Update on the 15k service. It appears that an update as they call it was done to the controller. Still no change in fact that with it in Eco mode, nothing running, go 1 mile at 25mph it looses 10 miles. Goes from 96 to 86. Even shows 86 in D mode after full 4 hr charge. This is after a week after the upgrade. Still making to and from work 60 mile trip but the fluctuation in the GOM is drastic at times from before the update. After call back from Service manger at deal ship appears a 2nd car the did is having same issues. Taking it in weds for #1 Ace tech to study up on the problem and see if it is a controller issue reading to the dash board.

At this point, it might be worth doing some research of your own.

You know your daily commute route, you know your battery's capabilities and you might roughly know when you will consistently trigger LBW. <-- all this prior to the sw update.

Fear not: Don't trust the updated software. Do the exact same route and try to get to LBW. You probably need to take note of any new "limitations" on your reported range from the new software. At this point, you probably need to recalibrate yourself to adapt to the new software.

This is why we are not planning to send our 2011 Leaf in for any of the sw updates to fix the TSBs. For example: I am quite ok with just using the 12v Harbor Freight portable heater plugged in for the extreme cold days in SF Bay area. I am fully aware the sw fixed the heater issue, but in exchange for messing up everything else, ugh no thanks.

I think we will only send our car in for a sw update only when we lose 1 battery bar. :) Perhaps, at some future point in time, they will be able to give me the illusion of one bar back on dial with new sw.

FWIW... I like the Carriage Nissan crew. I met Carl (salesman) last year. I had the LEAF in there a week or so ago for the 5K check and the service people were very good.

I will try them next time the guys at Gwenett busted their butts plus brought in a Nissan specialist & the car was declared meeting specs but the issue of drastic loss of miles when first pulling out remains. I made them leave issue ticket with CS open at Nissian CS. It is working fine except for that issue. still getting my trip to & from work with Miles left over on one charge 60 miles round trip no loss of capacitance

I'm sorry, but I don't see anything actionable in your report. We've been saying for well over a year and a half on this board that the "Distance to Empty" gauge is unreliable. That's why we started calling it the GuessOMeter, or GOM. It's quite possible that Nissan is fiddling with the algorithm that drives it, in response to complaints. But whatever they do, there are no guarantees, and will never be any guarantees, that it is either accurate or even exhibits behavior that looks sensible under all conditions. It is simply a computer estimate, and computers can be incredibly stupid at times.

The best thing to do is just ignore it, at least until the battery is nearly empty. The EPA says officially that the car's range is 73 miles to empty. If you are getting 60 miles day in and day out, I don't think you have any basis for a complaint. How far is that taking you down on the 12-bar blue and white available charge gauge? To two bars? One bar? Are you getting Low Battery Warning? Very Low Battery Warning? Turtle? Tell us that, and what you are getting for miles/kWh, and we may have some more sympathy for your situation.

I am not aware of any TSBs that affect the heater, only one for the AC very early on for some of the first 2011 vehicles. Neither your VIN nor your delivery date are listed so I don't know if that one applies to you or not.
