Shop refused to rotate tires at 8K miles!

I took the Leaf to Discount Tire to have a puncture fixed and wheels rotated. They measured the tread remaining and said that there was too much wear differential between the front and back tires, and that they were not allowed to rotate them. They had some signs up all over the shop to that...

    I'm not "OK" for 2012

My New Years Resolution is to never "OK" Carwings any more. I'm done. From here out, it's either Decline, or my favorite: "MAP" to bypass the mess. It's a hard habit to break, but there will be fewer smears on the touchscreen to clean. If everyone did the same, the entire Carwings data set...

Brakes "mutate" to become grabby in stop & go traffic?

I was stuck in slow-moving traffic going downhill, gradually releasing and applying the brakes to creep along, one car length at a time. (No accelerator at all.) Over about 10 minutes, the brakes took on a very "binary" feel -- they were either grabbing hard, or fully released, and I couldn't...

    RFID Card analysis

From what I can tell, the Blink RFID card is an NXP Mifare Plus: http://www.nxp.com/products/identification_and_security/smart_card_ics/mifare_smart_card_ics/mifare_plus/ 13.56MHz ISO 14443A 106kbps I can get the 7-byte UID out of the card, but that's about it. Anyone know anything about these?

    Testing the emergency power-off

In the spirit of testing all functions, I tried the "three rapid presses" on the power button while driving. This is the emergency shutoff that would be used to prevent a run-away car. The result is as expected -- the car shuts off. Dash dark, but the headlights and Nav system stayed on...

Anywhere to RENT a Nissan CONSULT-III+?

The Nissan CONSULT-III+ is really expensive. ($10k+) Outside of the Nissan dealer network, I'm not sure who would invest in one. Maybe a large repair chain or tuner shop? There is some overlap with the Nissan GT-R, since both require the newest version. Is there any outfit that rents these...

    LEAF CANbus decoding. (Open discussion)

The CANbus network in the LEAF is the central nervous system, connecting all the major modules and relaying information between them. This thread is a place for like-minded hackers to share information on the LEAF's CANbus topology, message contents, experiments, and gleaned information from...

Updated information from ECOtality San Diego 5/26/2011

Andy Hoskinson, San Diego Area Manager for ECOtality, was in Encinitas tonight on the panel at the E-Mobility event. Not surprisingly, the audience had several questions about ECOtality and their failure to deliver on the public charging infrastructure that was promised in October. I took some...

Blink end-of-charge demand curve, and power used by A/C

For anyone curious, this is a plot of power demanded by the Blink EVSE after a long charge. After the charge was completed, I initiated the remote Climate Control, which likely ran the A/C for a short while. I was surprised at the amount of power consumed during Climate Control.

    I-Key System Fault

Today I went to start the car and got "I-Key System Fault" on the dash display. As far as I can tell, the car seems to run fine, and all i-key functions continue to work. Remote door lock/unlock, Drive/Reverse/Park, etc. It pops up the "I-Key System Fault" on every startup and shutdown. I...

    Registering the EVSE with BlinkNetwork

Has anyone successfully registered their Blink EVSE with BlinkNetwork? This site: https://www.blinknetwork.com/profile/chargers.html# It wants a serial number, but rejects what I'm giving it, which is the alphabetic "Device ID" shown in Device Info. Is there a different number that they want...

Does anyone have access to a CONSULT? (San Diego)

The Consult handheld computer unit has a lot of convenience settings available that we can't control from the owner's dash. It can disable the Panic Alarm function, for example, or set it to 0.5 (default) or 1.5 seconds (win!). It can also set the "AUTO DOOR LOCK", which is something I'd be...

    New Blink, already crashed

My blink hasn't been running for 12 hours yet and it's already crashed. "Communicating with Device" leads to a "System Error" screen. Good thing it's on a removable plug, as it seems it will need rebooting often.

Has anyone successfully paid their Lease in full? Post!

If you have leased a Nissan LEAF through Nissan, and successfully made a full payment for a three-year lease, please post. I am very interested in the details of the process, pro/cons, and the payment computation. For that matter, any Nissan-leased car would probably apply. This would be...

My ACTUAL Lease dollar amounts & comparison to purchase

As this was my first Lease transaction, I found it helpful to see other folks post their calculations. I would like to give back by posting my actual Lease details for any one else to compare or comment. With options, my car had an MSRP window sticker of $35,230 (including options and $850...

    Automatic Keyless lock

The car knows when I have left the area with my key fob. It would be nice if the LEAF could automatically lock its own doors. Wouldn't that be cool? Just walk away, and the doors lock behind you when you are out-of-range. Conversely, when I approach the car with fob in-hand, it could also...

    Carwings: Remote Door Lock

I would like to see Carwings expanded to allow remote door lock/unlock. Specifically, if I have left the car parked, and find I've either forgotten to lock the doors or staying longer than expected (overnight), it would be great to run the iPhone app and lock the car doors remotely. Unlock...

120v trickle charge: No taper-off seen in power consumption

This graph shows the 120v AC power draw of the Nissan EVSE. The battery reported "75% charge" before I began: Note the hard start and hard finish. There is nothing of the 'balancing' phase or pulsed consumption we saw on previous graphs. Any ideas why? Because it started from 75%? Because...

Still confused by ON/LOCK and Park modes

After driving for a day, I'm still no closer to understanding the Park function in the Leaf, and the difference between the ON and LOCK states of the power switch. The manual is clear about putting the car in Park (park button) before turning Off, otherwise you can't enter "LOCK" mode. Here...

    Destination fee hike: $820 -> $850

After I picked up my car, I noticed that the price was $30 more than our agreed RAQ. Apparently, the Destination Charge (for San Diego, anyway) has gone UP.. It's now $850 on the window sticker, which increased the MSRP and the RAQ quote. Note that this is NOT shown on the Nissan dash, which...
