    The Battery Replacement Thread

I lost my 4th bar in November (just under 5 months shy of the 5-year mark) and nearly 40k miles. Got to a dealer the last week of December for the battery check, but it took Nissan 5 weeks to get a battery pack to the dealership. Dropped it off Tuesday and picked up Wednesday. One of the...

    Official Southern California Edison thread

Interesting info that SCE just posted (public) on its investor site. http://www.edison.com/content/dam/eix/documents/investors/events-presentations/eix-november-2014-distributed-generation.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The average solar NEM subsidy is shown on slide 4...

    Chademo vs SAE

Any bets that Elon's patent-release is (at least in part) to throw Tesla's QC protocol into this fray? Why would a low-volume mfr like Porsche or BMW just use the Tesla plug and sign on ($$) to the growing Supercharger network? Nobody is going to buy an electric Panamera on the slim hope that...

    Trickle Charge

The "beeps" sound like what happens when I get a ground fault error on the ChargePoint EVSE's where I work; the car chirps when I plug the L1 attachment to the car, but nothing happens when I plug the 120V plug into the unit. Make sure you have a good (15-20 amp) circuit or try another outlet?

    iPhone text message alert

Given the current publicity about texting-induced accidents, it's hardly surprising that Nissan would have blocked notifications of text messages (and/or Apple suppresses them when the device is connected to a car). Safety 101...

Nissan adding quick charging at 100 dealerships

It must be nice to have a Blink DC unit next door to your house, so you can compare the costs so evenly. I use QC differently - to enable trips that would require an ICE but for the availability of QC. So for me, the question isn't "is that an unreasonable price per kwh comapred to home?", but...

    SoCal Branch Year 3 LEAF-Gatherings - See Year 4

See you all bright and early! Need to figure how my Android battery app stopped working.

    Official Southern California Edison thread

I believe SCE changed policy in the past few months - site inspections are reserved for higher-capacity EV's like Teslas and perhaps BMW Active-E or Toyota RAV. They aren't checking on 3.3 or 6 kW chargers anymore.

    Capacity Loss on 2011-2012 LEAFs

I've heard wonderful things about the Android app you mention, and talked to garygid about it. Alas - I'm a dyed-in-the-snow-white-wool iPhone junkie (converted, in part, because Nissan didn't have a Blackberry version of the Leaf app in April 2011). Not giving up my iMac/iPad/iPhone...

    Capacity Loss on 2011-2012 LEAFs

My main problem in taking the Leaf down to VLBW is getting it home - I live atop a very steep hill, plus my wife has low tolerance for range issues, so Turtle isn't an option for me. And yes, watching the GOM for 2+ years has left me appropriately skeptical, but it seems to be more consistent...

    Capacity Loss on 2011-2012 LEAFs

Absolutely. To squeak out 75 miles, I drove 55 from Whittier to Newport Beach (mild downhill along San Gabriel River the first 16 miles), then drove 52 most of the way home, and still got back with 2nd lowest GOM ever (7 miles indicated). The only "silver lining" is that, as the effective...

    Yesterday I loss my 3rd bar @ 26 k miles..

Actually, utilities and others (probably solar-panel contractors) are waiting with open arms for batteries too "spent" for efficient vehicle use. Utilities need large-scale battery farms to balance intermittent generation sources (solar, wind), while a solar contractor could take a large solar...

    Capacity Loss on 2011-2012 LEAFs

First bar lost today. 20,490 miles, 26 months in-service. Ran 75 miles on fwy Saturday, down to LBW - must have been the last straw.

Why isn't there more unity in EV community?

Um... The Frankenplug? I'm worried that I might need a QC someday but the nearby infrastructure winds up not fitting my car because a cynical mfr came up with a competing standard for their own compliance car to sow FUD among PEV buyers. That's one reason.

Nissan To Install 500 More Quick Charge Stations

I have used L1 a few times in the Music Center garage. If you arrive at 6-6:30 for dinner in the area, about 50% of the pillars in the garage beneath the Ahmanson/Taper have live 120-volt receptacles. Four hours of L1 (shows let out around 10-10:30) is worth ~20 miles or so of range, if that's...

Does having a Leaf as 3rd car make sense?

We bought the Leaf as a "first" car. Commute is 12 miles round-trip, but we have averaged 180 miles/week over 2 years. So 2/3 of our mileage consists of lunch, errands, and local trips around LA on weekends. The ICE backup is for road trips, or (SUV) high-cargo needs. I will echo other...

Quick Charge L3 in LA, San Bernardino, Riverside Counties

I tried both sides - first the right, then the left. Used "Guest" code on right side, but had the QC to myself.

Quick Charge L3 in LA, San Bernardino, Riverside Counties

Used Blink QC on Mateo in downtown LA this afternoon. Easy access, 2 Leafs on the L2 Blinks and a Tesla S came up and plugged in L2 before we left. My problem: the Blink card I had used successfully at Ikea last year wouldn't activate the units - as if either the RFID scanner or my card were on...

2013 Easier way to switch between 80 and 100%

When I charge to 80%, then set the charging timer to 100%, it always indicates "1:30 hr" for L2, but it usually doesn't take that long. So, if you re-start charging from 80% at 7:30, to leave the house at 9:00, you should hit 100% just before you leave, minimizing the time sitting at 100%.
