Seeing a lot of recent replacements are they finally catching up?
Cynically, I think it's just become cheaper for Nissan to do replacements again rather than buyouts

Buyouts are based on customer acquisition price but that can be way above current market value so Nissan might be unable to resell those units with lemon title easily.

Also, Canada never had buyouts so I never had a choice in the matter

My work form shows a new part number 295B0 4NP6DRE vs 295B0 4NP6D

Google searches put the former as 3k USD with 2500 core charge, versus the latter at 14k with 2500 core charge

Maybe the RE at the end is specific for warranty replacements?

From a BC Facebook group, admittedly second hand info

I heard from my dealer that they just completed a warranty battery swap for a Leaf that had an approved claim from Oct '22. Also told me that there have been some communication from Nissan Canada about supply chain improvements for the battery and to expect wait times to decrease this year....
 
Washington State datapoint for you all:

I received my check from Morley today.

- August 2022 - Purchased 2017 Leaf with 64k miles at 9 bars for $16,875 in Washington State.
- 1/6/2024 - Partner (primary driver) notices 2017 Leaf has dropped to 8 bars. Battery is also doing weird thing described as “bulging,” where it suddenly and quickly drains down to near-turtle mode, but then eventually recovers. This happened on the highway in cold weather. Not ideal.
- 1/7 - I email dealership. They offer loaner, tell me I’m in warranty, make an appointment for diagnosis.
- 1/15 - Drop off Leaf at dealership and get my loaner. The plan is to first do a full diagnosis, then wait for a “remanned” battery. Dealer has no idea when battery will arrive. Due to “bulging” battery, car is determined not safe to drive.
- 3/13 - After periodic check-ins with dealership, the service dept. recommends that I call Nissan corporate and complain/inquire, as it may expedite things.
- 3/15 - Nissan arbitration specialist (NAS) informs me via email they are no longer manufacturing batteries for 2017 Nissan Leafs and instead gives me an attached letter of intent (LOI) to buy it back.
- 3/28 - Pictures of Leaf, other docs are emailed to NAS.
- 4/5 - NAS sends me offer letter of $15,579.19. Usage fee was $1,317.81. I had driven the car about 17,250 miles.
- 4/5 - Signed offer letter sent back to NAS. (Yes, same friggin' day.)
- 4/25 - Morley calls and we set up a surrender appointment. They told me to pick a time Mon-Fri, 9-3 pm.
- 5/6 - 2 pm appointment. Meet in service department. Was expecting Morley representative, but apparently Morley is not in the area, so the head of the Service Department handles the transaction. Vehicle inspected, cleaned out, keys passed over. Vehicle surrendered. Check received. Check deposited.

You can have corporate send you a text update every 2 weeks. That's what I do
 
*** UPDATE *** it’s been about 3 weeks since I had the appointment with my dealer to start the warranty process and I received a call Thursday afternoon telling me that my battery arrived. I’ll drop the car off Monday morning for the swap. Details to follow.

I guess my timing was right for the latest shipment of batteries as my service advisor showed me 2 other LEAFs that had been sitting on the back lot for almost a year waiting on batteries.
 
My saga is nearly over. My 2017 went in for a battery replacement February, 2023. I get to pick it up tomorrow with a new 40 kwh battery and Nissan is replacing the brake rotors for free since it sat on the lot for 15 months. I'll turn in the 2022 Leaf loaner I've been driving at the same time.

Wow! Good for you! I filed a claim with Nissan customer support on January 24 this year about my 2017 Leaf with about 58K miles.
After taking it to two different dealers complaining about my car going into turtle mode and them saying there was nothing wrong, my car finally died on the expressway on the way to work one morning.
Thank God I have AAA for the tow, but I did lose a day's work and had to rent a car. I rented a Tesla and really enjoyed that ride!
I was notified about 4 weeks ago that they agreed to buy back of my car as well as reimburse me for all my rental fees.
I got all the necessary paperwork returned to them about 3 weeks ago. They were going to turn it over to another company to inspect car and whatever else needs to be done to take possession and finalize the deal.
 
Hopefully this is my final update regarding the battery upgrade. After dropping the car off early Monday morning, the repairs were completed and I picked it up late yesterday afternoon. I am happy to report I have a new 40kwh battery, LeafSpy show the SOH at 99.83%. I was especially happy to see the estimated range on the Guess-O-Meter jump from 85 to 165! (second pic in Eco mode shows 173 @ 98% charge). All in, the process took a little over 3 weeks for me and I almost feel a little guilty as so many in this thread have been waiting such a long time.

If you are in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, Courtesy Nissan in Richardson took care of the warranty process for me and my service advisor Scott Rupert was EXCELLENT to work with and I highly recommend him. Hopefully, there is a surplus of batteries coming into the pipeline now and eligible LEAFs can get repaired in a timely fashion.

Hi just reading your post about the mileage ... I currently only get 85 miles to a full charge and alot of people have said u r meant to get more
 
Is that deformation on the sides the result of swelling of the cells? What sort of battery issue were you having? Degradation? Isolation?
degradation, isolation, battery percentage suddenly drops then recover. etc. in brazil they said nissan cant change the whole battery pack, only repair using parts. the total costa of the repair will cost about 60k dollars. they said they cant fixit at this price, probabbly they will buy it back. im waiting for a official nissan proposal.
 
I opened a claim on my 2017 Leaf S in January 2023, My dealership had me in a loaner for about 14 months before calling uncle. I don't know if that put the pressure on Nissan Corporate or what, but I just got notification that my battery will arrive in 3 weeks.

I only paid $12k and had put 95k miles on my Leaf, so getting the buyout on NJ lemon law was never really a consideration.

Hoping it will be a 40kWh pack, because it will be great having a 100 mile range.
 
It seems I'm following your path. I'm in Winnipeg with a 2016 SL, 7 bars (54% SOH). I started my claim in June. I get biweekly texts from the dealer saying they're waiting with no ETA. The best info I got was about a month ago saying I'm #32 of 44 in the Canada wide wait list. One difference for me is that I'm waiting for an 'American' battery since my car was imported and doesn't have the battery warmers in it.

The car is still fine for my needs until the battery temp drops below freezing. Even then it's not the range that bothers me, it's the power reduction. The car goes hard into turtle mode. I need to turn the heaters off to get it over 50 kph. Luckily(?) with 30%hx, there's so much internal heat being generated the battery doesn't get that cold too often, at least not this winter. I told my dealer that if I don't have a new battery before September I'm going to need a loaner as mine will probably be a brick by then.

Let us know if you get any action. I'm curious to know how long others are waiting, or if Canada starts buying them back too.
It seems batteries are starting to move. More people on this forum appear to be reporting getting their new batteries.

When talking to my dealer rep in April I was told I'd moved up to #30 on the wait list. 2 spots in 10 months did not make me happy. So I called my level 1 customer service rep an Nissan Canada and tore a strip off them, demanding to know what specific actions the company was taking to get more batteries. They sheepishly referred me to a Level 2 rep who works specifically with the battery stuff. We had a few conversations over the past several weeks.

First they shared that a new supplier has just come online and batteries are moving. He had resolved some replacement pack claims recently and anecdotally indicated that about 5 per month were being delivered. Since telling me that a month ago, I've moved up to #18 on the Canadian waitlist.

I also asked him if the replacement batteries that are coming are new or remanufactured using old cells from other warranty returns. He did say that some of the replacements are remanufactured, but could not comment on the cells specifically. So maybe they're old shells with new cells, maybe a mix-n-match pack of old cells... only Nissan will know. He also said I won't get a choice in the matter. I get what I get when I get to the front of the queue.

If this keeps up I should get my new battery before winter. Fingers crossed!
