Mini Fridge in Car

Thu May 21, 2020 11:00 pm

Lets suppose I wanted to run a small fridge in a car. Not one of those little portable car ones, but like a legitimate dorm sized mini fridge. What would I have to do to ensure it always be on? Just a deep cycle battery and a beefier alternator, or would I have to get fancier than that?

EVs don't have alternators. They have DC-DC (that's direct current to direct current) converters, which take pack voltage and reduce it, usually to about 12-14 volts. The Leaf's DC-DC converter can provide about 1500 watts for accessories when the car is parked. While driving I'm sure it's less, so you'd need either a mini fridge with modest power requirements or a deep cycle battery to act as a buffer and reserve power supply for the inverter. You could replace the Leaf's mediocre 12 volt, 20AH or so OEM starting battery with a much larger AGM battery, with the inverter wired to it via a fused cable. I would also strongly suggest a hardwired battery maintainer lead to keep the big accessory battery up to charge.

Damn, and I looked, too. Well if it's a spammer they will find that that old trick no longer works.

Their other post also appears to be a retread.
I noticed you're still working with polymers.

OP edited the first post to add a link to "best mini fridges". The edit had to be approved. I've removed the link and am banning the spammer.

I'd actually rather just have this thread locked...
